Reef Roids or Acropower (aminos)

Reef Roids or Acropower?

Thanks! The tank will be four years old next month around Thanksgiving.
While that is basically true, I would say acropower is more to have better colours and overall health - It's much harder to measure this, some people love it, some say it has no effect some just like it.

Reef Roids is actual food you can and should target feed corals with mouths. Certain corals will benefit a lot more from this, where as some may have no reaction.

I wouldn't pick one or the other, but if you want to know what is working better start with one use it for 6 months then add the other and use that for 6 months.
Ok I feel it.

Reef Roids!

Ok Ok. Not my picture! But even with VERY aggressive nutrient export on my tank...... you really gotta be careful to not overfeed this stuff. My coral love it, so I overfeed and then I wonder why my glass is filmy so quick!
LOL nice tabk

I use both, here's how I do it:

Reef Roids is used twice a week, Wednesdays and Sundays;
Acropower is used as half of recommended dosage every day along with Fuel from Seachem. My tank is SPS dominated and I get very good growth from it.
Where’s your tank pic?!? That sounds like a legit way to use both. I might implement that

Ok reef roiders. What’s your experience with using polyp booster before reef Roids like polyp labs recommends?

Sorry to hijack, but I just ordered a liter of Acropower based on this thread, to use in conjunction with reef-roids.....

What about Phytoplankton? Can it be over-dosed? Is it useful?

Acropower because its easier to dose. Reef roids are great but in the long run you're going to get lazy and not want to make up the mixture, turn off all your flow and feed. (that's why I have a full bottle of RR on my shelf now). If Polylab can make RR into a liquid it would be awesome. Ultimately, I wouldn't (i don't) dose any of it as I'm not so sure how much is actually consumed by our corals. (Think about it, if you broadcast feed, how much time do the corals have to cosume it before they(RR or AP) go down into the sump and skimmed out. If you target feed, please refer back to my first statement. We have big skimmers to take that stuff out the water but we are steady putting it back in and wasting $. Just my two cents.

Honestly, I always heard Roids would stimulate the feeding response before feeding other stuff, but thaw Rod's and Mysis with Reef Roids, and target feed and then dump remaining..... obviously I don't feed the Roids daily though.

I have never seen a need for pre-feeding/polyp boosting etc.

I did always add a small amount of whatever food suspension I would use (oystereggs, rotifers, sps grow, reefchili, coral snow) to the water 10min before just to give that little "taste" to invoke a feeding response in everything, then I either broadcast fed or spot fed depending on how lazy I was feeling. Always at night or in the morning though.

Acropower always makes algae grows in my tank even with small doses twice a week. Ive stopped it and no more algae.

I agree. So then what do you shoot to keep your nitrate and phosphate levels at so that they still get their nutrition?

This is why I go over-kill on the UV, Skimmer, ATS, etc..... so I can over-feed my corals, and what is leftover gets taken care of......

Kinda like eating the deep-fried butter, but performing the triple-bypass at the same time.

Where is the options for never added/dosed anything in 3+ years but 2-part?

That’s right. You’re making me think what I’ve been doing is good enough. Especially with how stable my tank and consistent my growth is. Hats off, beautiful tank. Do you aim for a good nutrient level? Not under this and not over that?

I Heard you don’t need both. Y both?
I feed reefroid 2 times every week (RR is small particles food that corals actually can consume). I dose amino 1 drop every day (i use concentrated animo though not acropower, amino is just liquid that corals take in through water flow through them, that's why stony corals love it)

Measurable nitrates (<1ppm but greater than 0; typically .2-.5ppm) and I try to keep phosphates <.1ppm. My opinion, all that stuff is a waste of money. I do feed my fish well (LRS Reef Frenzy) twice a day and I occasionally add algae sheets as well.

What do you run for filtration

Roids mixed with LRS and Hakari shrimp, I use Brightwell for Aminos and I see definite results. Careful with roids though if you have even a speck of Hair algae it will take off growing. I used Acropower till I got Cyno and stopped and Brightwell has not done that yet in the two months I have been using I don’t know if that is related but it’s what I saw. My tank is super low no3 and po4, not by choice though.
I got cyano dosing acropower too. I cleared it up with chemiclean. Waited a month and started to slowly add acropower again...cyano started showing up again! The colors on the corals popped tho. Maybe ill try brightwell.

I don't want cyano..... but I'd love my corals to color up, so I'm trying it. I will wait until the rest of my UV sterilizers arrive, hopefully they are arriving today or tomorrow.

Some folks around here have had good luck with Quantum Bio-Enhance.
