Reef Squad

This x 100

Like the people that post "Welcome!" all day. Those people would give 5 stars to a garden of Dinos.
You wish you had a hospitality badge! No ones going to think your grumpy Gus if you have a hospitality badge...

Hmm, I kind of want to try this. @TheHarold if you want to be nominated please post a photo of your incredible tank and I'll make the recommendation :D

Why must I do all the dang work? I have a signature for a reason... -_-

Oh wait..... I should probably add one

^See?!?!? This is why I dont belong there

More than welcome. Seriously.

No seriously this is actually really good to know. Didn't know that's how it worked. So instead of complaining I'll just start nominating awesome tanks! Is there a thread for nominations by chance?

No idea if they have any interest but I nominate @bubbaque and @FarmerTy since they are by far some of the most helpful and active SPS keepers around here IMO. Perfect timing to my new suggestion as well since @FarmerTy just got the spotlight.

That was fun.

I'll throw out a wild idea since I somewhat agree the whole Reef Squad / Excellence thing can cause some issues and a cliquish feel to the site. Perhaps the forum should move to a tank rating system where a users tank receives a public star ratings with count. Someone with 100,000 five star votes on their tank for example would be infinitly more meaningful IMO than a Reef Squad banner. Now the public can choose instead of insiders...
So the issue is that there are thousands of tank threads made by very knowledgeable members, having a public rating system just turns into a popularity contest. There are some build threads that are by new members that are really popular but it's because the member is well liked and not because of how knowledgeable they are. Threads like that would become highly rated, despite not having the corresponding credibility your system would imply.

That makes total sense. Same issue applies to the post/like ratio, I guess.

Just pm a squad member, it will get forwarded for review.

Agreed. Bad Idea. lol. Just thinking out loud.

I haven't read all the posts but many so I'll just say it. I think the whole reef squad thing is ridiculous. When I see someone call out reef squad I bail on that thread. I love R2R but not the reef squad. I think we can do better.
Remember, constructive criticism is always better, how do you think R2R could do better?

Democracy is not a bad thing, but people have to understand what they are voting for

On the other hand, what if a very experienced reefer with decades of knowledge just joined reef2reef. They would be a "new member" and would be a valuable resource to the community. Their tank blows away any members tank here.

They would still have to be willing to help members with questions on a regular basis and show respect to all, no matter what and still be a active member for sometime before consideration for the squad. But we would definitely be watching them for sure.

Thank you, again, for you continued involvement.

Do you feel like your posts were fully understood? Or do you feel like some (perhaps all) of your posts were misconstrued in some way that did not benefit the conversation?

I can message later, need to step back and relax for a bit.
Ironically, it’s a saltwater pool.
