Just to echo what's on here already: I bet I have ordered from John @ ReefCleaners 20+ times over the past decade. He is my 1st go-to unless he's out of stock of something, like a particular urchin.

Only 2 issues ever have been with USPS. In both cases enough lived/looked good that I didn't bother contacting John.

Virtually every complaint with Reefcleaners.org

And AquaSD, (there is a current recent complaint thread about them as well)

Is really with the transport company, and their blunders

Weird how people think that through, and place blame on the third culpable party

"The shipper messed up, it's the vendor's fault entirely". Curious how a mind does that
I'm not stating this as an argument, the whole shipping situation really sucks. I ship 20 lbs. boxes of trout eggs with both Fed Ex and UPS and would prefer to hand deliver them.

BUT I remember reading in Fed Ex's live animal shipping policy (can't find a link currently) that live animals have to be shipped BUSINESS to BUSINESS, so who would be violating policy for Vendor A shipping to a private residence? Easy way for Fed Ex to say "not my fault", you didn't ship it to a hub.

UPS is policy is spelled out better regarding proper packaging, but still treat live animals as perishable and don't take responsibility for loss.

I have a hunch saltwateraquiarim.com is a middle man and passes the order on to who ever fulfills it. I may be wrong but I've never seen or heard anything about them raising livestock in house :thinking-face:
I wonder that myself. Three shipping locations, all inland. To search livestock I type in Saltwater Coral Farm.

I’ve used Reefcleaners for several years now. Had 1 smelly box but this is the south…

Yeah but putting heat packs in the box in June qualifies as boneheaded….
but I get your point: I think a lot of customers can be unreasonable

Tell us what you think this means in your own words, please

That way we don't need to make up objections to your points

That are not really your points

I ordered from them twice, and twice, the interesting animals I ordered that I paid for overnight shipping on arrived dead or dying, and about 50% of the snails arrived dead or almost dead.

I order from Reeftopia.com now. They don't have the same variety, but the astraeas, nerites, mithrax crabs, and blue leg hermits (and all the other inverts, corals, and fish) come in super healthy and are extremely reasonably priced. Order enough for free priority overnight shipping and you're golden.

The hobby industry violates Fed Ex's policy if shipping from a business to a residence. Don't expect a refund of anything from the shipping company.

If less than ideal packing is used with UPS and the animal dies/is crushed/overheats, UPS will not cover it. That is up to the packager to find a way that the animal will survive the shipping process.

I've noticed the vendor in the title of this thread has policies in his website that address these concerns like not shipping over or under certain temperature, not shipping to Arizona until September and I commend them for that.

100% recommend reefcleaners. Use your better judgment as far as shipping and temperature goes. You have to look at reefcleaners like buying stuff in bulk. The packaging is not perfect, but you get a lot more bang for your dollar.

I have ordered from reefcleaners a handful of times in the past 3 years, usually with positive results. The last time my 2-3 day usps shipping took 5 days to cross the state of FL. and everything was dead. John took care of it. I recently placed an order on July 3. My order required UPS overnight shipping. "$35" No option was given. This is fine if it ensures all livestock arrives alive. The order shipped Mon. 7/8 for a Tue. 7/9 delivery. As I mentioned this shipping procedure was required and cost $35. Today I received a notification that the order is delayed and will arrive 7/10. Hopefully the shipment arrives with healthy CUC, but in the future I will be getting all my CUC from the lfs.

How your shipment go? My zoas from WWC all arrived fine. Opened up within an hour of going in the tank.. Some were already open just in the bag. Package/carton/bags were all top notch from WWC.

Used to order from him years ago - its been reeftopia.com in recent years for me.

That said, its too hot outside to ship, its actually insanely hot.

Also, as to original poster: I used reefcleaners twice.. Once about 6 years ago and once earlier this year. Everything went well.. My snails and crabs still doing well.

Glad to hear. A day late, but everything seems OK. An assortment of snail's split between two tanks and a Tiger Conch. So far so good.

I have been getting my CUC from reefcleaners for at least 15 years. Too much work to look up when I first ordered from there. I actually just got an order today. Clearly with the current heat wave, I probably should have waited, but when I got a notice that they had a mated pair of CBS, I pulled the trigger. Of course everything was fine except one of the pair didn’t make it (multiple serpent stars, other shrimp, group of peppermint, snails, and feather duster were fine). John promptly reimbursed me, although I am bummed to not have the pair I was seeking. It happens.

Over my dozen of other orders only an occasional loss. And Black Friday of 2020, the USPS totally failed and my order did not arrive for about 2 weeks (use your imagination on what that box smelled like). John had already reimbursed me. Since then I don’t think he allows anything except overnight shipping between thanksgiving and new years. Not his fault - holiday shipments were notoriously bad that year.

RC is the only place I get CUC: good prices, good selection (some items are seasonal), and great customer service!

I've made like 5 orders for inverts from them with great success. I also ordered a couple corals from them which do ship from ORA which is a separate business I believe. No more dried up newspaper for me. Individually properly packaged inverts and 5x the size of reef cleaners. It really is not even apples to apples comparison. Everyone is entitled to their preference and I hope everyone gets what they expect. I tried reef cleaners multiple times and was not satisfied but what made the experience truly bad was his attitude and customer service. But this worked out fine because I'm very happy with saltwateraquarium.com. to each their own. Picked up a few more ninja snails too. Ordered 3 peppermint shrimp and they sent 6. Got 2 nice porcelain crabs too.

Would you use them for CUC and if it takes 2-4 days to ship would that be ok?
i’ve ordered from them for 3 years or so now and the only death i had was a scarlet hermit and a couple nerites
not much and they were all refunded really quickly
good prices although getting slightly higher in the last year but everything is honestly
the shipping could be iffy with this weather which is why i’m holding off on restocking till everything cools down a bit

Ok

I got my CUC from Saltwateraquarium.com

Not impressed

They shipped a day late

And 33% to 50% of them haven't moved from yesterday when they went into the tank

Slacker snails have to go to Garden

Thinking of taking a pic today, and post it
Then take a Pic tomorrow and post it

If anyone wants to save the Slacker Saltwateraquarium.com snails, you can have them for shipping cost. I can send them yo their forever home. PM me if interested. Don't shop, adopt

You do know it's not uncommon for new snails in the tank not to move for 24 hours or more right? Some move right away, some in a few hours, some take a day etc... I think it depends on the quality of the environment they are being introduced to which may be quite different from their previous environment.

Remember the key most important rule in this hobby? It begins with a P
