Replace glass or tank?

That's just really unprofessional, never saw that kind of work from Planet.
They should not even bother you to who's at fault with the crack with this kind of work you will win any small claims court you file with them.
IMO they should deliver you a better tank as they stand for their work.
Just yesterday I discussed a upgrade with the wife but it ain't going to be Planet, Reefsavy will get the order in, I like their Ghost overflow but just overall a lot better and more professional if you going to drop 10K on tank only.

Btw send them a email with this link that might help.

Would be possible to send me pictures of some of the seems from your tank? The bottom in particular?

I have to say that I was considering ordering a tank from them to update my 8 year old 140, but after seeing this - no freaking way. Very sad assembly of a large tank. Obviously no one inspected that tank before it was shipped. That is just bad business.

The thing that worries me now/ticks me off is I still haven't heard anything back from Planet or DFW.

Hopefully they are trying to figure out what to do. Hard to bite the bullet and make things right when you are in business, but it is something that you HAVE to do sometimes. Reputation nowadays is so important with social media. This thread alone has probably cost them a number of future sales. I do hope this all works out for you. Not a good way to start off a new dream tank.

This is the response Fluid Designers sent me. What am I supposed to do know? I will dispute the CC charge and I guess get a lawyer, but I mean $2600 for a tank they see as "fine"?

A tank with a trimless bottom usually isn't pretty. Its not designed to be pretty and that's why its usually covered. Doesn't effect the strength or integrity. I have ordered close to 50 tanks from Planet in the last year without a single issue. DFW and Planet have been great to work with and I will continue to work with them.
The tank was received in good condition and then a crack appeared later and know one knows how. This seems sketchy to everyone. Not placing blame but you have to see the dilemma here.

I am willing to send you a replacement back glass but that is about all we can offer at this time. I still feel that you should wait and see what the the freight company decides. If they do handle the claim it is usually not in money form. They will typically work with the manufacturer to repair or replace.

I would tell them send a rep to my house to see this first hand or i dispute the charges and pursue this through the courts.

Here are the following email exchanges. Please keep this at the top. For now - I will fully do a rewrite if they make this right and let everyone know that they did (IF they do). Stay away from Fluid Designers and Planet Aquariums in Texas.

This was my response to the above email I recieved from Dave Marriott at Fluid Designers:

Me: Nope. Not going to cut. I received a tank in poor condition. Are you serious with me right now? You're telling me with all the uneven cuts, the bottom being uneven, missing silicone, silicone drips, glass half polished and half not, that this tank is worth $2600? And you never once mentioned "the bottom would be ugly and is usually covered". All you said to me was because I did not want bottom trim, it's made differently. I will dispute the charge and I will get a lawyer. Why don't you read this thread I made and see how much business they are going to lose. This is ********.

ave: It is still my goal to get you happy or satisfied. I certainly can't make you any promises. Its hard to have patience right now but sometime it takes a few days to get everyone together on the same page and rational decisions can hopefully be made.

Me: The fact that this is still a discussion is mine boggling. Come out here and look at the "quality" of work. Tell Planet to send a rep here. i will gladly invite you, them or both, here. A brand new tank or you need to refund my money willingly. This has gone on long enough. Yes, it started with the mystery crack, but that does not change the fact the tank looks as if a child put it together. The pictures speak for themselves. I would love to hear you tell me you would gladly put this tank in your own living room and fill it with 200 gallons of water and be proud of it.

So Damian, I work for DFW and know a good part of what is going on.

I would like to start out by saying you have been in contact with Planet Aquariums and Fluid Designers which is who you purchased the tank through.

We need to ask you to please refrain from posting any more until we get this straighten out. We will be happy to talk with you more tomorrow during business hours to keep working toward a solution that works for everyone.

there really is only one solution from the pics he has shown why do you need to work out a solution. You want to make a customer happy then satisfy the warranty only solution

Tigerdragon you do not have all the facts, but this is not a warranty issue.

Well there are lots of people following this to see how you handle it. I run a business myself and believe me word of mouth will make or break you. The old saying treat one right they tell 3 people treat them wrong they tell 9. I am interested in how this plays out.

Ok let me ask you this, you are a business owner if you buy a car and on your way have get in an accident. You go back to the dealer a few days later, should the dealership give you a new car no questions asked?

I would be happy to give you as many references you would like to show Planets build quality.

If I can chime in, Planet has a good reputation, they build my tank as I wanted it and still there were a few question that came up and everything was done through email. When I picked the tank up they showed to me as it was build before they boxed it up and put it on my truck. I have seen many tanks from Planet in the Houston area and can say that they do good work. That said I was really surprised to see this was a tank build by Planet. I'm a business owner too and if I have to make things right I do it even it means I lose money on the deal but you get the awesome exposure of a good service that in return gives you more business.
Many LFS don't like to see this will go unresolved and I'm sure that Planet will man up and take care of this in a professional way as we do in TX. I'm planning my next build too (96x30x22) with maybe a Ghost or external Coast to Coast. Will follow this and I'm sure we will see a happy OP in a few weeks.

Ben.

I will refrain when this is taken care off. Your new car analogy is is off in this situation. Is posting on a public forum the only way to get your attention? You, your company, whomever, sent me a product you should be embarrassed about and then refused to take responsibility for it. You see the pictures. Would you be proud to put something like this in your home? If I didn't make this a public issue, there is no reason for me to believe this would have been taken care of. This shouldn't have even been a discussion. You see the comments. You see it's not simply an unhappy customer. Further more, I requested pictures from Fluid Designers, before it shipped numerous times and was not provided one. This whole thing is a waste of everyone's time. Getting back to the car analogy, it is not like buying a new car and then getting into an accident and bringing it back. Its like buying a used car and the dealer trying to pass it off as new.

Furthermore, I will gladly let everyone know this was made right and Planet is indeed, a stand up company. Which, BTW, I'm sure they are, however this has not been my experience until this point. Let me also say, I, in no way, expect perfection. We are all human.
