Yep I really didn't consider that too much when I bought a pretty standard 200g DSA setup. Myself I'm 5'8" and I can just reach the sand bed and I almost went with a deeper tank.

I'm 6'0".. How deep can I go on a tank?

I chose 42" because I have a 36" now and I think it's too low. I am 6'0 -6'1 tall depending on the day...

Another reason I wanted taller because it's going in the basement wall and the walls are actually full size walls. I think it will look a little better.

Well we are semi-moved in but still working on it! We have our old house leased for the rest of the month so we have been able to take our time which works out great when you have to move an aquarium right?

The plan is to move the tank when all the "other" things get moved. The tank is on auto pilot with the controller, water top off, etc. I have been going over and feeding.

Anyway I plan to create a large batch of saltwater here at the new place and prepare a large "feeding" tub from the local feed store to receive the rock, fish, and coral. After it is ready I will bag all the fish, fill rubbermades with rock, coral, water and move them to the prepared tub and acclimate them to the new water, mixing in about 30% or so of the old tank water.

After that I will take my time to move the tank, stand, sump and plumbing over to a temporary place in the new house and then move all the inhabitants back to the tank.

As far as the new tank goes, it is being built. That's about as far as it goes! Ha! For now here are a few photos of where the new tank will go.

Tank will be in the wall on the far right side. That wall is about 14' so the new tank will take up over half of the wall but centered.

Pardon the moving boxes and junk but this is where I will build the tank room behind the aquarium. The wall to the left, under the light is where the tank will be.

I am going to have to run water over there but it doesn't look like it will be a problem to have that done. I want a sink and drain but have to figure out how to get that done.

Congrats on the new place looks amazing and all the best for the new setup.
I have roughly the same dimensions and here's a few notes.
- dedicated power lines straight from mains so that any electrical issue that happens in the house doesn't affect tank (if possible)
-Additional line to on UPS or back up generator that kicks in automatically and feeding only essential equipment ( I have both but we get very frequent power losses )
-ventilation tubes taking air from basement outside of the house if possible. I prefer those to a dehumidifier as it's less power to run them ( depends on ambient humidity)
Dehumidifier works but don't over do it as it only leads to water evaporating more from the tank.
-Water mixing water change system (semi automatic for me works great) with larger tanks water changes are bigger and makes sens to have a bit of automation or an easy workflow.
Drain and water supply to fish rooms.
-as for tank height and as you don't have any equipment below it I would advise to go lower. It's all about personal preference, I prefer to see the tank sitting so prefer to have the tank center at eye level .
Plan your scape based on desired effect and viewing options.
-tank depth, the more the better but keep in mind that beyond 24-30 inches wide is rather limiting as lighting becomes a challenge to cover the tank.

We're looking at a house now as well ( been in a condo for 16 years) and we see a lot of houses like that. I thinks it is intended to be for the furnace and AC as well as storage. At least all the houses we looked at have those in them

You got to keep the Gulf sign if they don't take it. They are very collectible
