I'm debating the stand size. What would you suggest for better viewing?
 
Never mind, I am going with a 42" stand. :)

There is not enough of this in the hobby! Some things are extremely hard to pull off unless you have people that know people willing to help.

Rev, something to keep in mind is the position that you will be viewing the tank, most of the time. I would think a 42" stand is excellant when standing. I, however, spend most of my time sitting and viewing the tank. I ended up building my stand 31" tall. (was suppose to be 30", but I forgot to take into account the plywood. [emoji3] ) This is more in line with my eye level when seated.
 
Of course its all relative to how tall you are but 32" is a good balance for standing or sitting (I do a lot of that) and with a drop down floor PVC liner plenty of height for most gear. Even at that height and a 27" deep tank I need a step stool to really get in the tank. Access is always a good thing.

My stand is 41' tall and I love it. I feel like I can still see my tank while sitting, but also have an amazing view while standing. I hate having to bend over to look into my aquarium.

My tank is 27" tall. I am only 5'7" so that is also part of the reason for the combine height.

That being said I have always had a problem keeping it clean over the years even with diligent maintenance. I am considering bare bottom with a few wrasse dens for some sanding sleeping spots.

Personally I think sand is a ticking time bomb. Get a BB, they rock. The bottom of my tank is black acrylic and the entire thing is covered in coralline, looks pretty natural if you ask me. The only drawback imo is sand sifters.

Do you have a stand yet? If not, I have a deal for you. I've got a steel stand made from 2" square tubing and painted with black rhino coating, dimensions are 96x36x40. I was going to use it for the display on my 1000 gal system but went in a different direction so I'm not going to use it. I live in Ringgold, let me know if you are interested and I can provide pics.
 
If you love the sand then go sand, no sense in building your dream tank and leaving out something you love about aquariums, If one person can keep a clean sand bed then so can you.

I built my stand about 37 inches high including the piece of plywood and foam the tank sits on. This puts the top of the tank at just over 60 inches from the floor. Not so high to where you need to a stool to feed and not so low you have to bend over to look inside. Seemed right and I'm happy with it.

Sorry if I forgot but you were planning a fish room right rev? If so is such a tall stand needed? I know having a taller stand is nice for adults but smaller children will have a tough time and could possibly try to use the stand as a jungle gym to try and see.

Just food for thought..
