Rock Anemones Rock

If well fed you will get babies from the adults and if you are the bold type you can cut adults in half(some losses will occur).

Never heard that but it's been a couple years since I looked into them much. I saw some people cutting them but they just look like half nems. How long would it take to grow one round again?

do they walk like bubble tips or do they stay where you put them?

This is my first experience with them so hopefully others will chime in but the reason I went with these over other types of anemones is because I read that once you get them into a spot they like they are much less likely to move around than other species. Of course I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule. When I put them in they only moved about an inch or so then settled themselves in and haven't moved again since. But it's only been about a week. Unfortunately my red and purple one decided it wanted to be up under a ledge so I can't see it as well as I would like right now. But it still has a good bit of growing to do. I'm sure by the time it's fully grown I'll be able to see it just fine.

Nice colors. What's the ghost looking thing on the Orange and purple one? I was hoping my baby one would end up like that green and purple one at the bottom but I'm thinking now it's just going to be green and brown. I don't know much about raising them from babies though so I don't know if it could still get more color as it grows or not.

When I have cut them they round out in a day but remain small for quite some time as they won't eat.

Here are some adults surrounded by babies, I used to have hundreds of babies but no really good way of feeding them so I lost quite a few.

I have 2 Rock nems and they did the same for me, placed them then they may have moved an inch and haven't budged. It's been over 6 months. I would suggest putting them in a place that you really want them to be.

Here's mine.

It anchored it's foot through the substrate onto the glass while acclimating and i havn't been able to move it since (wanted it the rock).
You guys are lucky in the US as they are really hard to get hold of in the UK, sometimes see one or two around but they are usually ugly.

Around what time was it when yours started to secrete? I've been told that they only spawn around 4 times a year and only during the strongest full moons. Is this true?
It was at night. 11 to 12. Mine really didn't have different moonlight settings so I am not sure what would have triggered it in captivity.

Gorgeous :)

Well the answer is just to send the babies to me. I'll feed them! ;)

Hear is my little baby nem that I found in my Ricordea garden on the other side of the tank from my anemone area. He is up to quarter sized now. He was nickel sized in this picture. The lower picture shows how he fluoresces:

When I started out, I had a Nuvo8 that I just filled with rock flower nems. Then I got a Nuvo24 that I have set up as a Florida biotope. All the nems got moved to that tank, and the Nuvo8 is softie/LPS now. Here's some pictures of my nems from when they've been in either tank:

Hmm I wonder if, even in our tanks, they still can tell when it's a full moon?

@Mirya

Holy smokes on 3 and 6. I definitely want to get at least 1 more, maybe 2. Would love to find those colors. I think I'm addicted. :)

Thanks! No babies for sale at the moment. I only have 1 baby that I know of. I need to play some Barry White to get them in the mood I think. ;)

The rainbow nem came from VIP Reef, which is one of my favorite rock flower nem suppliers.

I just bought five of these and they'll be delivered Tuesday. I'm so excited I can't stand it. Can I ask how much you paid and what size they were when you got them?
