Roscoe's 450g system

Tank looks great! I love the aquascape!

What is the black snake looking thing, in the bottom of the tank before anything else was in it, and below the live rock after it was placed?

The black snake looking thing you see there is my sand barrier. As I mentioned earlier in the thread. The DT will be half BB and half SSB. I made it using eeg crate, black foam great stuff, chunky aragonite sand and gorilla Super glue. The black stuff you see is the great foam I used to fuse some rocks together. The front of course will have sand and the back will be BB. I did this for a few reasons. One I want to keep multiple Leopard Wrasse and am a BB guy anyways, two I want to know and see where my sand dwellers live instead of somewhere in the back of the tank where I can't enjoy seeing them, 3 I wanted maximum flow behind the rock work towards the back of the tank to keep detritus from building up in the back. To do this I utilize a Tunze 6101 on a controller hidden in the lower left back of the tank pushing water strait towards the OFB. The tunze is set to run full speed then rev down to half speed so that it has a pull and push effect which works just as plan. The whole midback half stays BB. In my observations in my last couple of tanks I just noticed that with constant water flow in one direction the flow tends to force the detritus into your rocks. By having the Tunze on the controller it avoids that problem. I hope that explains eveything.

And what is the thing on the table next to the chiller that looks like a paper towel holder with a green parrot food bowl on the side? :misdoubt:

You guessed it right it was once my African Grey Parrot's perch. I gave him to my brother about a month or so ago. I told him he needs his wings clipped again before you take him outside. Well he had my poor Chester for 5 days and he took it outside since he said it never wanted to fly in the house. What do you know Chester was fine sitting on his shoulder outside but once he stepped one foot into the house he was gone to open air! The sucky thing about it was it happened at dusk so trying to find a grey bird in the dark just isn't going to happen esspecially with all the trees around. well anyways I hope someone found him and gave him a good home and I hope he didn't get picked up by some cat or something.

Nice tank thread.. I can't wait to see this in 6 months :).. Very nice documentation

Thank you!! Well I have 4 months to hit the 6 month mark. I have some SPS and LPS in there now. All my SPS looks decent but I lost some acans and favias. The funny thing is that I have indo and aussie acans/favia. All the Aussie stuff died and all the indo stuff is looking great in the 270g. So Hopefully in six months I will have all my SPS and LPS transfered over from my overly stocked 40b.

Thanks... LOL no that was not all done in one day. I started this thread all in one day LOL.The project started late January and the system has been running for almost 2 months now. I still need to get the fuge and frag/quaratine tank online here pretty soon. I won't be having any type of anenome in the DT how ever I do plan a RBTA fuge in the garage with either picassos or Snocassos. I plan to use a nylon net on the open top DT to take care of potential carpet surfers. As far as the guys 1000g tank he had a black tip reef shark and a bunch of tangs and angels.

Oh yeah I would love to get one of those Gem Tangs!! My pockets just ain't that deep seeing them online LOL. Can you PM me where your friend got his from?

oh wow, if you ever go back there snap a pic! Yeah sure man ill give him a call.

I would take some pics but his 1000g is no longer. Yes please let me know about the Gem Tang. I would love to have one if it is within reach of my pocket.

no probs. just waiting on the text back. like i said, this was a good 7 years ago, so idk if the price is gona be the same..he also had to put a 500 dollar deposit down, and about 3 months later he got a call saying his fish is coming to his house.

your tank looks dim! do u only have one of the pendants on in the pic? where you located?

Im in Tacoma, Wa 30min south of Seattle. Those pics I only have the 400w on in the middle. My light consist of dual 250w on each end and as mentioned above 400w in the middle. I want to put some type of actinic to supplement but I don't no what to use in order for me to keep the canopy looking clean. My photo period is 8hrs MH. The lighing schedule is the dual 250s come on at 1:30pm then the 400w on at 3pm and off and 8pm and the 250w shuts off at 9:30pm.

I finally got around to getting some update pics. The tank is doing great. Still got a lil algea here and there but it is coming along great.
