RR Jawdropper Acro

I don't have a camera or the skills for a pic. A friend took it for me. The polyps are somewhere between red and purple. I'm sure that they will turn. I don't think RR has made a mistake mine looks the same as mikes but it didn't come from him. The pick would be sad now anyway because 1/2 has already been cut off. Lol

It's just that every pic of the frags and mother colony direct from rr. Shows blue polyps. The closest to red polyps I have found was the 2 pics I posted. I am just wondering if rr messed up and sent the wrong pieces to sexy corals.

So either reef raft mixed up the order or the red polyps will turn blue. With the red polyps it almost looks like the bleeding avenger?
I have Bleeding avengers polyps are Blue for sure.
And I'm sure their was no mixup the original was photoshopped to death. I think it's nice but as for the Blue Polyps I hold my reservations I think this was when it first came in so captivity as we know changes things on all SPS very rarely they maintain exactly what they did in the while this being no exception.

You are not seeing the blue polyps on that photo because the photographer even stated they were closed because he just moved the piece

These pics were taken by the same person a few minutes later once the polyps opened up

But how are the pics of the frags the guys in canada getting recently at least closer to blue. But the pieces that just made it to the states showing red polyps ?

Time will tell I guess.

This again is only my opinion I've been in the hobby for 16 years. I've dealt with SPS ONLY directly with Walt Smith's in my store when he was shipping full colonies the size of basketballs out of Fiji almost 12 years ago so it's not like I havent been around a bit and seen SPS's.

Again time will tell.

Here is a captive frag from the other site no blue in sight he even comments that the Bleeding Avengers looks more like the JD should.

Guess you can make of it as you wish I'm not here to argue just showing pics and voicing my opinion this is what forums are for right?

Oh I did mention the pic I posted was when the colony landed almost a year ago and how captive conditions play a role.

One thing about the JD seems constant tho - although some pics show it to be nicer than others and it is a coral I would very much like to have, none look like that original "famous" pic from RR with the saturated orange and blue.

Not arguing at all or questioning your experience

Just trying to get to the bottom of why the jd in Canada has bluish purple polyps and frags in the us are red. Something just doesn't seem right

Maybe it's all the chemicals in our water lol

Yep good call. I wanted to show it off. Didn't mean for it to get out of control. Just excited about finally getting my grubby paws on this one. Lol

Your bleeding avengers is sick man. Makes me very glad i didnt lose mine in my tank troubles last year. :)

There are a few threads out there about the JD, this one so far is real interesting.
Keep it coming as I gather info here.

Just as a reference polyps always have the potential to change color as they mature. A prime example is my signature rainbow acro. Anyone that has it in good conditions can tell you that polyps start as green/yellow. As that portion of the acro matures, the tissue color and polyp color changes. The end result with mature polyps in my rainbow acros is hot red polyps. BUT, like many other acros, if not in prime conditions all of those colors are subject to change ;)

Is anyone selling frags of the JawDropper yet or are they still uber rare?

i've yet to see any frag of this jaw dropper that looks anywhere near the original picture. That should tell you something. It's a shame.

BTW, I've got this bridge for sale, anyone interested?

Joe is Spot on with his comment. I just received a piece of his rainbow and the polyps are two different colors so it looks like as it grows out, the polyps will shift in color too. Let's also not forget about the Rainbow Montipora. As that coral grows and spreads out, it's polyps change color too. Maybe the JD is similar in that mature (settled) pieces get the blue, while the frags lose their color and turn red until fully acclimated and healthy. I'm anxious to see how this thread continues.

This thread is making me feel a little more confident about purchasing the JD.
From other people i have talked to as well, I feel confident the frags here are JD. I just hope it gets the blue back, caus the contrast of the blue polyps against the yellow abd orange base afe what makes this piece stand out. If i drop 1000 dollars and they never turn blue il be sad. :(
