Saltwater Tanks: What do you hate?

Another pet peeve of mine- the misrepresentation of animals by the friendly, knowledgeable LFS. Brackish fish that would thrive far better in saltwater being sold as freshwater species. And I wonder how many millions of fiddler crabs and land hermits have suffered a long, horrible death at the hands of those who took advice solely from the LFS. The fiddler is not even aquatic, nevermind freshwater, and the hermit is not a desert animal. Both are shoreline creatures that require a large area of dry land, and a saltwater pool for bathing.

I agree. We now have Gerald who my daughter rescued from a three year old. Not only did he not have fresh water or salt water or food but no sand etc. he's now in a large reptile cage with sand/coconut mulch fresh and salt water and homemade food. He's the nicest guy and we are hunting a new shell for him right now. He's in a painted shell which I hate and which is to small.

Shells are much cheaper on eBay.

We were at the beach. Found several that were empty or had dead hermits in them. Going to boil them and see what Gerald thinks. Rest will go into my tank for my numerous hermits. I have super tiny ones so I have no idea what to do for shells for them. Lol

Post some pics I can possibly help ya out. Had hermits over 8 years. Boil in dechlorinated water btw.

Oh I plan on boiling them. Gerald, the land hermit crab, is very big so we are having issues finding a shell big enough. And some of the small ones I have in my tank are really tiny. Lol. I'll try to get pics posted in a little bit.

Here is one of my small ones. I think I have a few that are a little bit smaller.

buying the wrong equipment, no having enough space for bigger tank, not enough money for better equipment, a nagging wife lol. the list goes on and on..
I can relate to this on every level lol especially if you flood your tank by accident :X

Opening on your land crab shell about the size of a quarter?

Yes. Maybe a little bigger. He is unable to go all the way inside his shell now. Lol. He's a purple pincher crab. Super chill.

Salt creep, salt creep by a mile

I hate it, can't stand it lol. Ask @mdbannister how much I hate it lol. My brother and Daniel were making fun of me so bad because of it one day.
I hate it when I get my frags all set up and my tuxedo urchin comes through in the middle of the night and pulls them all off. Dragging them all around with him throughout the tank.
