What RO/DI and ATO systems do you guys use? I found a spectrapure RO/DI system for $150, but it's $31 for shipping!!
Spectrapure is what I use, no complaints.
Don't waste time on API test kits. Go salifert or red Sea from the start.
If I was starting again I wouldn't have bothered with a 'trial' tank. Just get the one you will upgrade to next year.
And oh yeah.. just go zeovit from the start

Do you remember what website you ordered from?
Not buying a system that LOTS of other people use. Custom or nitch is not the way to go. Get something people use, and use often. Like a redsea system, or a CAD system. Or if on a budget a Coral life biocube. The advice will be a lot better as people have experience with your exact tank and equipment.
My tank is 46 gallons. I am over 5k into it after a year. In retrospect I should have spent more initially to get something like redsea or cad. I ended up spending about the same amount due to equipment replacements and modifications as I would have on a higher end system.
Also I would have gone bigger. Now I am 12 months in and already want to upgrade. Plus cost wouldn't have been much difference a 46 gallon tank costs nearly as much as 90g in the long term, and takes way more work to keep parameters stable. Considering the cost of things in this hobby, you don't save much money going smaller. Your cost per gallon is way WAY higher for equipment, and your labor per gallon is much higher.
Oh and I would have gone glass. Labor on acrylic is WAY more intensive once you realize magnetic cleaners scratch the tank no matter how carful you are or how many brands you try. Given that glass is so much easier to clean, and doesn't scratch easy, and works VERY well with magnetic scrappers and scrubbers, your tank will have more clarity just from being cleaner.

Look into Marine Pure Bio Spheres & The incomparable Poly-Filter. These two things will help you have a healthy successful saltwater tank.

Biggest mistake was getting into the hobby by having a 90 gallon oceanic bow front donated to me and then piece milimg it together 1 part at a time with out really understanding the intricacies of the hobby.
Best decision I wish I'd done sooner is buying a rd sea max s system that is ready to go and engineered as a complete system from the factory.

If your still looking for a light for the price you can't beat Green Element Quads you get 64 3 watt LEDs 32 white and 32 actinic that will grow anything.
