Schnitzel's SPS

Your orange passion is loving those T5s lol. How close to the light is it sitting?

It's in the middle of my tank.
It's been one of the nicest OPs I've ever seen in person. It didn't come from sexy corals or RR. I got it from a hobbyists around 2012, and he said he got it from a coral wholesaler. That's why I call it Schnitzel's Orange Passion. Hahaha.

What's this one? Very nice millie.

Beautiful setup and corals! What bulbs combo are you running right now? My old 100g tank I was using radion and I'm starting a new build and going with ati hybrid powermodule and this thing is so bright! Love your sps collection btw!

Pictures are awesome and so are the colors that you are pulling out of those corals

I was inspired from people like you to improve my camera skills and also grow beautiful acros. [emoji1303][emoji1303]. Thank you sir, that is quite the compliment.

I'm running 8 bulbs,and also a Reefbrite XHO
6 blue +
1 coral +
1 purple +

When it's time to change bulbs, I wanna try running different blue bulbs from different manufacturers. I wanna add a KZ blue, and maybe a geismann or a Narva blue.

So like 4 blue +, 1 KZ blue, and 1 Narva blue, and then stick with 1 coral + and 1 purple +.

You are going to like the dimmer. They go dark at about 8-9%. From 15% till then give your tank a mystical look dark dark blue background with corals florecense all over, telling my age, but it reminds me of a black light poster

Crazy colors:)
For my own tank I don't like this super blue
look, bit I love seeing other tanks with it:D

What is the name of the green acro on the rights side of your last picture?
The one behind the blueish looking acro:)

Cheers

Sweet dude! Those colonies are growing in. Love the way you gave everything room to grow. Makes me want to follow you and just throw an 8 bulb ATI over my tank. Getting tired of the second guessing, LOL!

Man that is a beautiful tank!! I've been reading your build thread, and then this one for too long tonight, but congrats on a lot of hard work and perseverance. I'm setting up a 300 gallon 96 X 24 X 30 myself and I was wondering if you took any par, lux, and kelvin or any other light spectrum readings before switching over to the Reefbrite XHOS. My main reasoning is I have 3 Radion XR30w pros gen 3 and was thinking about getting 2 of the new gen 4 pros. But I was wondering if this was a personal decision or if you had actual measurements that supported your decision that not enough light was getting to your corals. When getting into light spectrum analysis there are a lot of different variables that can affect how much light and what spectrums get to the lower parts of bigger tanks. Thanks. AWESOME TANK!!!

Yea I agree. The blue light washes out some of the nicest colors. And some of the fish look so boring under all blue light. I only use the blue reefbrite during sunrise and sunset. During the day, with all t5s on, it has a much nicer color to it.

If your talking about the large blue/green acro in the back, I believe it's a tort. I call it blueberry fields tort.

Thanks man. [emoji1303]
I can promise you one thing, you absolutely won't regret it. Only thing I regret about T5s, is not buying them sooner. Not 1 coral looks worse under T5s. All my Sps are doing much better, as far as color and growth grow.

My tank is actually shallow. It's 96"x30"x21" tall.

My other light setup was 5 radion G3 non pros, and 6x80w t5s. 4 of the radions had wide angle lenses, and the 5th one that was over my cross brace had the original lens. The highest par reading I was getting was 350. That was at the very top of my tank, just below the water line. That was with all radions and t5s on. The lights were about 10-12" about my tank.

At the time I checked the par, I was running a 16k light schedule, so the lights didn't have lots of white or red. This could have been why the par was so low. Later on I changed the schedule to run all color channels at 100% for 5 hours, and some acros started looking better. BUT, then I started seeing lots of algae, and notice I said SOME acros. After switching to T5s, ALL acros looked better.

Not sure if that helps at all. But I can tell you my radion experience wasn't a good one. It was a hard $3000 lesson.

Just subscribed, great thread. Really enjoyed reading through.

I'm setting up a tank with similar dimensions and planning a very similar lighting configuration.
