Hardly anyone ever talks about Scopas Tangs.

I just bought one a couple of weeks ago, young adult, pale yellow upfront and pure black tailfin.

What am I to expect colorwise as it matures?

A Google search seems to indicate a white mouth, pale yellow middle and black tail.

They definitely range in color. Mine is mostly a cocoa brown coowith a very intricate pattern of dots on her body. Unfortunately I don’t have any decent pictures of her.

Pics don't do these fish justice, you can never see the intricate details and subtle tones, mine has the lines.

Great fish.
The ugly poor mans yellow tang. Lol.
Ive had prob 2 or 3 scopus tangs. Great hardy fish. Mine were mostly brown and black. Some white and yellow. Lol
But mostly brown and black. Lol.
Again. Great under valued fish
D

Excuse the glass, the yellow is a xanthic scopas but the other 3 all show different colours, the xanthic female and large male have spawned, I think I have worked out how to sex them and by pure luck I appear to have a male and three females! ;)

Just bought one recently - was the only zebrasoma I didn't have. Kinda drab, though better in person than in picture.

Mine has darker tones but the lines and dots on his face and body look blue , definitely a great fish . I also have a YT .

I've had one for about 8 years. It's usually quite dark, mostly black, but when you look closely it does have that great pattern that many people above have mentioned.

No they are ugly compared to a yellow or purple tang. Lol. Sorry i neant the fish not the person or buyer. Lol!
D
Yeah, I knew what you meant. I just 'chose' an alternative interpretation for my own amusement :)

From front to back, mine goes from a lighter grey to a very dark brown/black with dots all over. There are also a couple of spots up front where I can see wavy lines running parallel to the water line.

I love my Scopas. She’s a great algae eater, plays well with others, and her colors, especially close up, are striking. Way prettier than a yellow tang IMHO.
