Sharing BRSTV’s video!

That is not what what happened as a result of the investigation.

Your analogy still applies but the example does not.

Being from Michigan I may be privy to additional information but should that be true that alone would be sad. It just illustrates that misinformation or the lack of information is everywhere.
Knowledge is power and with journalism moving toward activism it is hard to get the complete NUANCED story. Usually there is so much narative deciet and just plain burying it is really tough to get complete information.

It's funny I tried to keep the example as apolitical as possible to illistrate a point, but I can only truly parrot what little I was seeing at the national level.

Don't worry it's morphed into a discussion about consumer reports and how Randy is biased. Pretty soon someone will bring up Vibrant.
I was gonna say 'wake me up when Vibrant arrives'

This will sound rude but I don't think the vast majority of us come here to have RHF tell us BRS is a business :p

Well, if you already know the information I’m trying to impart, why keep arguing about it? Just ignore something that seems obvious to you.

Many things I write are not intended for the vast majority, they are often intended for the small minority that doesn’t know whatever I’m saying.

As to this particular video, I do not think it is in anyones best interest for me to spend the time necessary to critique it at the expense of other things that I am more qualified to help folks understand. Others likely can do that as well or better than I can. I have no reason to be highly concerned about it, but have not watched the whole video to know. That is why I have not made any comments critical of this particular video.

Read what I wrote. You come here to have RHF tell you BRS is a business?

I thought you had deducted that already ;)

I also tell people that 7 dKH is fine. Some people need to hear it. If you don’t, then move on. Why is it necessary to make a federal case out of my pointing out one thing that is obvious to you, but not so many others?

Aside from whom and what to believe. I’m waiting for the target specific pods and critters packages. I totally get the enormous biodiversity needed to handle all the little nuisances in our tanks. As stated in the presentation, these build over years. Aside from starting a tank with live rock, magic mud, etc., for those that already started sans all that, how long do you think it will be before we see either a full biome in a bottle, or targeted biome products for diatoms/cyano/dinoflagellates/etc.? I would very much welcome that approach vs chemiclean solely as a feel good about using a gluten-free, organic method to resolving issues.

Dino erase magic in a bottle would be a cash cow, regardless if it worked.

(lord knows some old timers treat reef knowledge like some magical secret)
Or maybe new people percieve that old timers do this.

If it was some sort of magical secret why do old timers so desperately want you to understand it?

I have learned many new things in my life and I have become interested in how I learn. I find that the greatest obstacle to my learning is my own understanding. Case in point. I have kept my tanks in narrow range of temp for almost my 40 years of this hobby. This after spending 3 years on a reef at about 8 years into my hobby, even after seeing first hand that that is not how the ocean really works. It was only in the last 8 months that I worked up enough courage to let my tank flucuate with the temp in my house. Now I run 74 - 85 and when winter comes I am going to let the tank drop to 72. This is huge for me, but it shows how much we think we know that we don't.

It is hard to be wrong and it is hard to fail, but both of those things are the ingredients for sucess. Further, people can often help hasten those things. The problem is that people can work against those things. It is a tough balance to find.

I'd love your thoughts on the video and the experiments. What was done well, what was done poorly, what could be improved, what other things can be tested after seeing these results? The science stuff.

I know you keep using Consumer Reports as an example but I've found them to be dreadful and extremely biased on many things. Plenty of evidence out there for this as well. One of the biggest issues being how uneducated many are on CR on the item they talk about. Look no further than their absolutely abysmal and uneducated content on Tesla. That's for another thread though.

We will never have a CR type of entity in this hobby. I'd love one though. A truly independent third party reviewing items would be a godsend
I find the old tried and true of free speech to be the most effective. :)

Caveat Emptor.

I don’t know about you, or anyone else, but I got a real triton method ICP vibe out of this. I foresee sending in a sample to aqua biomics, receiving a report card that includes warnings and suggestions and product recommendation/dosing instructions for each specific biologic that is out of tolerance,

Yeah 1000%, I'm with ya.
