Skimmer suggestions for 90G

Thing about Aquamaxx is that they skim like crazy and have more efficient pumps that won't generate too much heat. Lifereef I'm sure is awesome too but requires a much larger pump and for me will heat up my tank too much.

I've owned a co-s1 for 4 years now. Got the Q3 for my other new tank and OMG. I am very impressed!
I was looking at the Q2 because I like to feed heavy. Seems like a good option.

I had the q-2 on my 90 gallon heavy bio load before I tore it down. Now it's on my 135. Here's it on my 90.

Based on reviews it looks like every skimmer is the best one. I would say I probably have about a total water volume of 110 but those specs you listed so help me narrow it down. My foot print is 13" x 16" so most everything I've seen is well within that range. Then based on fritzhamer said a AC pump is more reliable/longer lasting but I personally dont have any real knowledge on either. Do you see a reason to get one over the other.

Personally I like the DC skimmers vs AC due to the fact you can turn them up or down. If I have some sort of issue with a chemical or additive that is causing my skimmer to overflow I can turn it down unlike using an AC pump as I have to try to open the gate all the way, lower the water level or put the skimmer up on a platform until I can get out the additive or chemical. Other that that I honestly don't see much of an advantage of DC vs AC if they are the same wattage, air pull and water through. But if you have an overflow issue, which you will at some point, they really come in handy.

I have an aquamax em3 and wasn't happy with the performance. Yes it was consistent but the sicce shark 3.0 was not strong enough for the body. I ended up modifying it with a jebao 4000 pinwheel pump and it pulls out roughly 3x's what it use to.

Gotcha, so I'm somewhere in the $400 range what would you recommend?

Honestly any of these would work just fine. Most of those DC skimmers are using the exact same pump, 3 of the 4 anyhow(YC is using some different DC Pump). Out of the below I would run the RB D700 as its going to be plenty of water through and plenty of air pull and the design is like most out there. Tough to beat for that price.

Would you say you have a preference to any of these?

I bought a new NYOS 160 for my tank a few weeks ago and I absolutely LOVE this thing! I have zero complaints.

The reefbreeders D700 as its the best price, its similar in size as the rest and uses the same pump. Jebao 3000 is plenty big for a 120-150g system and will pull in the 35scfh range.

RB also is easy to deal with from a warranty standpoint, they are solid.

I also wanted to add: I believe they will all do the job, its just the price preference, I mean why pay more for the same thing.

Saving money is always a good thing. I guess my biggest concerns is noise. There is a chance this tank may be in my bedroom and for whatever reason I'm associating $$ with quality/noise level. Wish I could line a all these options up then turn them on ahhhh!!!

I would go D.C. Pump then and I'm still a fan of the regal.

The jebao dc skimmer pump's are extremely quiet. I have a 4000 running right now and you can't even hear the airpull without a silencer, and its pulling 60scfh. It should be pretty quiet.

I was running a Super Reef Octopus XP-1000sss on my 90, was a beast but a 90 is near the top for that skimmer so it wouldn't be one you could transfer to a larger tank if you upgraded BUT there are several of those listed in the sale thread at a steal. It is a very stout skimmer.

For the money and from your recommendation. on the jabeo pump I think i might go that route. I've also been looking at the Nyos 160. It just look so nice haha

The Nyos is definitely nice, just have to decide if it's worth two of the others

Anyone heard or seen anything about a Deltec SC1455?
