I just went to pick up my tank (40 gallon breeder rimless). This was the second time. The first time there was a blemish that was too big to let slide, although in hindsight I should have just taken it. Now I go to to pick it up and the tank itself is 1 inch shorter height wise (which I can live with) and the vinyl on the back was not done well. There is also another blemish on the top seam which for ***** sake is going to annoy me. I just don't get why the builder doesn't care. He is supposedly the only builder in western Canada and I just don't get it.
Im not even gonna mention he didnt vinyl the bottom.

The LFS did me right, they gave me a nice chunk of change off, I just dont get it. I just wanted a nice 40 gallon breeder rimless tank.

I'm guessing Concept Aquariums out of Calgary? Yeah I'd never let them build a tank for me after being in there shop and speaking with them. There are a few around here who do have really nice tanks from them but these seem to be the extreme rarity. They are much cheaper than there custom competitors but that comes at a cost and unfortunately that's typically the quality of the product they put out. Sorry to see you've had so much trouble especially with now a second tank. Atleast your LFS stepped up a touch and somewhat compensated you for it.

If it makes you feel any better, I paid 4.5K for a 330g tank, it showed up once with a blemish at 5 months (original quote was 3 months), went back, showed up again with the SAME blemish (5.5 months), went back, showed up again with big scratches on the main panel (6 months), they came to "fix it" and didn't (6.5 months) and was sent back for a refund. I then ordered a tank from a different manufacturer and 12 weeks later it was done and perfect.

So sometimes, you need to wait a looooong time for perfection, for me it was almost a year!

I’m in edmonton. Whoever it was needs to care about what they are doing. The black vinyl on the back was done poorly and I didn’t even mention the fact they didn’t vinyl the bottom.

wow I can’t imagine having something that expensive be all screwed up like that...twice too

Sorry man. Im from grande prairie, i feel your pain on the professionalism around here.

Do you have ADA tanks in Canada I saw a tank very similar size of a 40 breeder and it 750 dollars at a LFS, it was rimless with nice thick glass and it was very clear glass as well.

When we say that this hobby is all about patience... this is not what we have in mind.

I wanted to get one built I live in sask but reading these always makes me hesitant. If Am getting a tank built I want it to be flawless I think I would be to picky

I agree, no such thing as being too picky. Miracles Aquariums is Canadian as well based out of Ontario. Shippings not too bad probably $300ish for your area it was $360 for me in Calgary.

no such thing as picky when it comes to the structural integrity of something that costs thousands and holds thousands of bucks worth of livestock etc
Exactly!!! If the builder says they can do the job and you're paying that much for the tank then accept nothing less than 100%. There are probably a few defects we can live with as long as they're not on any viewing panel (and don't affect the integrity) but what the OP described is unacceptable. Even if paid only $80 for a custom 5g and it was done half-butt I wouldn't take it especially if it could mean 5g of water all over my floor and dead livestock!

I know ADA very well, unfortunately no one sells it by me aside from Angel Fins, which is 1/2 way across the country.

I spent like less than $300 after it was all said and done...

^^^^ I get you, I live about an hour away from a great LFS with tons of product on the shelf, yeah it is in the states.

One has to wonder if driving half way across the country consumes less time and energy then dealing with some vendors.

And that's where the issue lies, A custom tank from most builders that size would more than likely be north of $500 CAD. This is Concepts major flaw, they price themselves SOOO low to get the business, but then there's no money to take the time and do a quality job.

i wish i could get a tank from reef savvy i would wait the year or what ever it takes but the shipping would be killer lol

Depending on the size of tank, shipping might not be as bad as you think...
