Are you comfortable drilling the tank and overflow box? If so id drill a second hole in each so you have a drain and emergency drain built in or even plumb them together useing the bottom for a full syphon and top for overflow making it quiet.

i was gonna use the back overflow box, because that Lines up perfectly with my tank. It’s just the front box that is way to tall. I was thinking of using a strainer in the front and the back of overflow box on the back of the tank

I would bore out the hole on the backside of the internal box in the right spot, or even cut the back of the internal box off altogether and then silicone it straight to the glass your bulkhead will need to be installed before hand and leak tested before you silicone the weir in place however.

The retofit internal box from CPR would be a good choice as well and would spare you having to ensure the bulkhead was 100% perfect beforehand. Downside to them is they are rather large.

Another option would be shooting either Exotic Marine Systems or Modular Marine an email to see if they can come up with a custom solution for the hole location.

Should be reasonably close in height to prevent noise from the water spilling over between the two

Honestly, I think the least amount of headache would be to get a new tank and start from scratch. This poor thing is a nightmare!

I don’t wanna do that for 2 reasons. 1 the glass is really thick. It holds water (I tested it). 2 this is one heck of a good learning experience. It’s both bad and good, it’s making me think outside the box. I don’t wanna give up on it.

even my wife said it’s a nice tank, just the finishing “tid bits” aren’t up to your (my) standards...she then suggested i re caulk it if need be.

remember I only paid $260 Canadian for it which is like $200 USD. The glass alone imo is worth close to that.

edit: this is it in its temporary home, on a temporary stand. Below is the sump I’m using.
