Spouses happy?

My wifes hates everything about it and supports me zero percent. When my 75g crashed she was so happy. I bought Reefer 450 and brought it up the stairs when she opened the door she said nobway thst is going in the apt. So back down the stairs and for sale. With all high end equipment. One year of convincing she finally let me get reefer 250. But its torture everyday. I cant even feed the fish without her complaining. It blows big time!! Animal hater!! If she only knew the thousands i have invested.

My wife's not a huge fan! Seems that whenever I'm out of town there's a problem with the tank.

She likes the fish but not enough to be truly interested.

It doesn't help that my first tank cracked down the side and dumped a ton of water on the first floor into the basement. Always in the back of her mind[emoji51]

I wanna say I had 8 or 9 tanks when I first met my wife, so she knew what she was in for. :p

She generally supports me, but I can tell sometimes she does get a bit annoyed with it. And I think sometimes she gets jealous of all the time I spend on here.

My husband is supportive and helpful but hates that it ties us down. Haven't figured out how to make it self sustaining for vacations etc.

Join a club, look for the blue lights from neighbors houses. Basically, make some local contacts that you can get to know and trust with your tank and house while you're away.

I'm fortunate in that my father-in-law has lived either across the street or now with us in retirement and he can handle the basic feedings and ATO top off if necessary. Since moving though I don't have that "when in doubt call xxxxxx" anymore lol! Gotta find another one or two of those types myself.

A lot of talk of "if the spouse is involved they'll be more accepting". That's just not true for every household. If my spouse were more involved she would be aware of what things cost and would have put the breaks on the entire operation long before it got as far as it has

I think that is true of most of these so-called "accepting" spouses. I don't know that your partner really is accepting anything if you need to lie about it all the time [emoji6]

Wife says she's #2 in the house, after the fish tank. Whenever I walk towards the tank to do something, she says, "Dose me! Dose me! Feed me! Feed me!"

She does like the free-spirited nature of the Lubbock's wrasse in my tank though, which likes to swim upside down and backwards observing things, and says she wants to live like that.

My gf was ok with it at first then she became my fiancé and realized how much money I was pouring into my reef tank . Two years later when we argue she threatens to destroy my tank and save her only beloved soldier (Midas blenny). The packages don't stop but we're getting

Yep, just go bigger and put it in the garage lol

I am new to this and loving it, my wife started me on this to save three fishes that came from an old aquarium and it was that or the toilet, several boxes latter she was regretting it especially the day my RO/DI was delivered she wanted an explanation why I could not use tap water but now that she knows this water is excellent for her plants she is ok with it. She is now into it and after three weeks she is loving the results, so now I need LEDs for my future corals and she is not liking the price tag but a trip to the local store changed everything she is in love with the corals but gave me an ultimatum the LEDs or my new recliner, I am still working on it.

Got rid of my wife and got a kitty. My kitty loves my tanks and never complains, even when I spill water all over the house.

I've noticed that mine is down the basement a lot more in the evening watching tv where the tanks are at.
I know she doesn't like the money spent on them but I like to have things to do at home that I'm interested in.
We garden in the summer and that helps with boredom too.
The expensive part is over with , now it's just a coral here and a coral there.
One of these days when I know what I'm doing better I'm going to start buying some higher end corals to grow out and frag so I can take part in coral frag swaps.
I think she would be interested in that a bit more maybe.

My wife and I have been in the saltwater hobby since 1988. We've belonged to saltwater clubs in both Cleveland and Dallas where we now live. We were out of the hobby for a while when I got transferred to Dallas in 2003. We went on vacation on Maui in 2011 and once we went swimming in the ocean and she saw fish that we used to keep in our aquariums she said "we have to set the tank back up". We've had a tank since 2012 and she's still into it. For my birthday this year she bought me a captive bred Blue Tang and a captive bred Mandarin. She checks on the fish every morning to see how they're doing. I'm lucky to have a partner in crime who understands what it takes to have a successful tank.

A bit ambivalent about it I think, happy as long as it is clean but then again not so happy about the money! However, she is forever liking fish which I then tell her we can't have because my tank is too small...so here is hoping ;-)

PS She does get freaked out by some of the critters that make the odd appearance and then panic if I stick my hand in there to clean afterwards...
