Holy cow! That's blasting! I put my lux meter on my reef suppliers tanks and he was running about 5-6k only and grows SPS like crazy! I'm so confused

depends on how high from the coral it is really.
And one of things Ive been really looking at (and some folks hate me for) is a lux par test will show intensity to par ratios. A pure white channel can be as much as a 40 or lower constant.

I have more deep red and maroon now than purple.

Agreed, red grows in higher light.

hahahah depending on color it could be 100 par. And my xenia in the fuge grow at 4000 lux under 2 compact fluros.
Oddly the also grow at 40,000 on my overflow box

I'll take a picture of my hand holding the lux meter over his water line next time I'm there. He has t5 led combo that's about 15-16 inches off the water

No bro, here. Kim(berly). Feed them lots. Acros and other sps like to eat a lot. Do lots of maintenance (due to feeding too much). Note: when you get too many corals growing too quickly in a small tank it's really a PIA to do maintenance. Also good lighting (your area of expertise, Salty). I'm using the ATI dimmable 6 bulb, which I found out recently (and have suspected for some time) doesn't put out the same PAR as the Sunpower. For the 180, I'm going with a Sunpower and two Reefbreeder Photons.

Sps in a gallon and a half for five yrs

No param testing

Only water changes using instant ocean weekly and feeding

It is easier to grow sps in a vase than in any other container contrasted to the notion that size equals stability. These are very stable picos, just watch out for nerf balls and elbows in the vicinity

Topoff once a week and no ato= also more stable salinity than other normal reefs too

Blue acro took over my vase and blotted out the light when it spread across the glass I won't stock anything on the glass again, only on trimmable plugs

Obviously a down side of sps picos is no fish

Wow that's the coolest thing! Makes me want to be bolder in my tanks.

Really, really good well water. About 110 feet deep, filters through a layer of clay then glacial till sand and gravel.
