Stupid question or?

I agree with the using Tap Water as a test run.

My first "large" tank (165 gallons) I had to completely fill three times, running the pumps, before I found and fixed all my leaks. using RODI would have taken forever! I drained and dried well before putting salt water into it for the "final" fill.

My latest build is a 210 gallon tank with an 80 gallon sump, and once again, I used tap water. By the grace of the reef gods, it was a single fill, no leaks the first time, experience.

A few asides, a heater should easily fit into your sump behind your return pump, and be submerged. Also, large zip-ties work very well as hose clamps. And finally, I would be careful with the "loop" in your flexible tubing, as any dependent area is a collecting spot for algae/slime, which will slow your flow over time.

Good Luck!

Thanks , that loop is only for an emergency drain that's capped in the overflow. I had a couple leaks in the return from pump upwards . I used jb waterweld, then self adhesive loctite tape, then wrapped with white tape

No. I'm not sure what the brain unit even is ! I just thought I could use this as an energy bar without anything else

You can, but it is a VERY expensive energy bar to just use as an outlet strip. If you get an Apex Controller, you can add it to it, and control each outlet by computer (on/off, timers, temperatures, etc...)

How do I use it as just an energy bar for now without buying anything else ! I think it cost $150

It should work like a $6 power strip. Plug it in, make sure the power surge protector light is on, and plug things into it. You just cannot shut of individual outlets like you could with the full Apex controller (or even a DJ Powerstrip.)

If only one outlet is working, you might want to return it if possible, and go with a waterproof power strip, or DJ Powerbar (search on here for it. That's what they are called, not a brand name)

He mentioned that only 1 outlet is working which means (i think) that the other outlets was defaulted to “off”. Not sure how you can turn the other outlets on without the base unit

I did read something online about that . I wonder if plugging USB into the energy bar and connecting to a computer will do anything

That is an Apex controller head unit for the Apex Gold. It is also a little "pricey" but worth its weight in gold for tank automation... (which may be a little down the road for just starting up)
On top of that , I also need the controller , right? Which controller works best with that stuff ?

Also , do I need that head unit or can my energy bar be ran with just an apex controller

Keep an eye out at the market place (dry goods) for a complete package which includes the base, display, eb8, probes and aquabus cables. You’ll save a lot buying used than new
