Welcome to R2R! If you're going sumpless, I would recommend an oversized HOB, or even 2. My brother runs a canister filter on his 75 FOWLER, and battles high nitrates all of the time. For me, HOB's are easier to maintain anyway. One thing though. If there's any chance of corals in your future, I would go with a sump from the start. It could save you money, effort and aggravation in the long run. I know there are a lot of people that have successful sumpless reef tanks, but for me, it has made all the difference. Just do your research and keep asking questions before you take the plunge.
