Tang trouble

I'm still working an outage so my available time is very limited. Compounded by an accident here Saturday. :(

I believe there is a skin infection going around that is being misdiagnosed as either Ich or Velvet depending on the severity. The one characteristic I have seen from pictures here and other forums is that the white spots range in size from looking like velvet to looking like lympho on the same fish. Treatment in copper doesn't seem to work and I believe it is often thought to be copper resistant Ich or Velvet.

I wish I had time to put together links to various threads but I wanted to get some of the experts thinking about it at least and offering opinions.

my qt has my two tangs that are going in my 100 long and they are three weeks of copper so far

Are these new additions or are they from a DT you are going fallow in? (Not sure how many DTs you have.)

Also, how close is this QT to the tank the Scopas is in?

I have two Dts and a 40 breeder qt which is in a different room.. unfortunately when lights came on I didn't see the sick tang.. I searched and searched and found him wedged in between two rocks and he has passed away.. still confused but sad sad day.. he's been with me for a long time..

I'm sorry for your loss. :( Best thing you can do now is keep a very close eye on all your other fish.

That third pic in your last cluster looked to be velvet to me,as did several others, unfortunately. :/
Sorry for your loss!

Ok.. I think one of the clowns now has it.. I'm just going to remove them all and start copper apparently asap.. is that what you guys think? I have the two clowns, the saltwater Betta, starry blenny, longnose hawk fish, 6 line wrasse, and the blue damsel.. will all of these do ok using cupramine?

They should all be fine in copper. Can you run them all through an acriflavin dip on the way to the QT? I think that would help address the possibility of infection like @Brew12 mentioned. Check the clowns well before the dip and then again after to see if there is any improvement from the dip.

Is that ruby red reef rally? If so I do have that... is it the same set up as fw Bath? And would you do them one by one?

So I'm going out on a limb, having kept numerous fish including all kinds of tangs. If the scopas, which you've had for a number of months is acting normally, despite the white spots, and the rest of your fish a acting normally, and nothing has changed (new additions, perams, etc) keep calm and continue with your daily regimen. As long as your fish are eating and behaving as usual there is a good chance that this will pass.

The tang passed away and now others are showing spots

Sorry to hear about your tang and the potential spread to your other fish. I remember earlier in the thread you said nothing new had been added to the DT. Has the tank always been quarantined for all new additions iincluding coral and inverts? I'm trying to understand the cause for the outbreak.

Do I need a separate new batch of ruby reef rally and fw for each fish

No, you can reuse them so long as the water doesn't get fouled. Keep both the dip & bath water well aerated and temperature controlled.

That's the problem.. out of the blue the tang started showing the spots. Not acting sick. He ate and everything last night.. after the dip he was stressed so we watched him until he called down. Then this morning I couldn't find him. Lights came on and I found him dead wedged between two rocks. Then this afternoon the clowns have white spots. And possible the damsel but I can't be for sure because he won't stay still long enough.. no one else showing spots but I'm not taking any chances now.. yes out of the blue. The tang has been with me a year. The last thing added was the marine Betta and that was end of May
