Tangs tearing up nori sheets

Innovative Marine Gourmet Gadget Grazer PRO. Yes, its $20. But it works, you'll never have to buy another one, and I cut two strips the width and length of the gadget, put down one, sprinkle a little bit of Reef Roids between the sheets, and shut it. Magnetic, put it in the tank, they have to pick the little squares, they get some extra nutrients from the Roids, and what Roids they don't eat gets released into the tank for the corals. The thing is awesome, been using mine for 5-6 years now, tang is 13 years old and loves it. There is a bit of waste, the sections between the squares is a little thick, but that makes it sturdy, and I usually leave mine in overnight, the next morning the snails have "sucked" most of the stuff trapped under the connecting sections. Really ends up feeding multiple animals if you use it right.

ive given up using an algae clip they have just kept tearing it off the glass so i just cut corner of the sheet into smaller pieces and put them in the tank so they all get a piece

This. Printed one out a while back. Took them about a week so to figure out what to do with it.

Its a scrap of travertine tile with a upside down frag plug glued to it. I just fold the nori in thirds and attach with a rubber band.

No matter what size I cut down the nori sheets, how I fold them, roll them into a veggie clip.... my tangs always eat at the base where the nori is in the clip.

Once they eat thru the nori sheet at its base, it detaches and floats away in a 1x1inch square or 2x2 or whatever. Forever forgotten by them.

I think they look at each other saying, "Daaaaah, where did all the nori go?"

That discarded piece floats and eventually gets clogged at the overflow inlet and is left uneaten to rot away ....or until i find it and I have to scoop out the nori glob. Nasty soggy crap.

IS THERE A BETTER WAY TO FEED 2X2 OR 3X3 INCH NORI SQUARES?

I've just about had it with this hobby bc I cant even squeeze out a 5% victory over anything. ANYTHING! Everything is a GD struggle. if i weren't thousands and thousands of dollars into it, I'd turn the temp up to 120° and then drop lit m80s into the water column... and enjoy the Hot Flying Tang Show

I rap it around a piece of 3/4" pvc with 2 hair bands.

I take a whole sheet and tear it into 4 strips. Then I fold the strips in half. I use some herb scissors to cut the strips up. This gives me a bunch of strips 1/8" by 2". I turn off the return pumps, leave the flow pumps on, and just dump the strips in. Where the flow meets in the middle, whirlpools drag the strips down. They are small enough for the fish to eat in one gulp. Everyone gets a chance and the entire sheet is gone in about 2 minutes. No waste at all.

I would stay away from those, mine rusted really quickly and the owner of my LFS stopped selling them since he had a lot of customers with the same experience.
Try the feeding pouch from two little fishies, it has the added benefit of that the pouch ca swivel and when you detach the dry side the wet side floats to the surface.

Its all plastic, nothing to rust, not the same product.

I found a really sharp pair of scissors and have been cutting the nori into 1/8" strips after its clipped in. This is working REALLY REALLY well.

That would be frustrating, mine is still intact.

I have 2 of those. Been using them for a couple years mine have not rusted

Mine is all plastic except for the back where the magnet is and I see no rust. It has been in my tank probably close to 2 years. It lives in the tank. I take it out only to add more strips to it. This was one of the most useful purchases I've ever made. And it lasts sometimes longer than a day when I put 2 or 3 layers in it. You do have to not go all the way up otherwise it doesn't snap closed. I prob. need to take mine out and soak in vinegar for a day for the coraline algae build up

Make them browse for it.

I use this too. Works great! I have two in my tank. Feed both in the AM and remove in the PM. Have 5 tangs. Highly recommend.

I made a nori feeder out of gutter guard and it probably cost me $0.50. Works really well. They have to bit through small holes. But they still manage to get big chunks out pretty often. I just don't worry about it. Eventually they will eat that too. Sounds you may just be feeding them too much nori, otherwise it wouldn't just sit around.

My tangs are highly disciplined and trained. The each get into line and wait their turn at the nori clip. Then they only nibble at the centre of the nori to avoid tearing.

I've been doing it similar to someone above. I usually feed a whole sheet of nori/day. I cut the sheet in half and fold it as seen in the pictures below. I then use scissors to cut it as seen in the last picture. I separate it in to two different clips.

Fold twice

Cut as shown. Don't cut all the way close to the clip as this seems to cause big hunks to come off.

I fold mine in half then half again. Then I take scissors and cut thin strips up to the clip. 8-10 strips. When they jerk on the strip they just pull off that small piece. A lot less waste.

That's what's worked best for me too.
