I unfortunately may be leaving the hobby. We have had many workers in out house recently to repair windows, and serv pro was deep cleaning because of a small fire. I originally thought some of the workers poured calcium and alkalinity into my tank, because these were the closest bottles to the tank. I found an empty bottle of window cleaner with ammonia and carpet cleaner. I'm certain this was poured into the tank. Being a small tank this had quick, devastating effects. I walked past my tank with an open canopy and closed corals. I've lost my prized clams, anemones, and clowns I've had for years. I can not narrow it down to anyone, and over 3 companies were in the house, with a total of twenty workers. I managed to keep one small clam, and have an extra 40 gallon I may set up. It's tough right now to jump right back in. I'm 15 years old and all the corals and clams and equipment had been earned through money I've made over the summers, with yard work, babysitting, and finding odd jobs. I spent a whole summer saving up for a mp40, and someone offered two Mp10s on a trade, I sent mine and never heard back. I will surely be back, and I'm setting up my extra tank now, but I will have to take things slowly.

That's horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!

There has been a few episodes like this lately. I'd love to know why (and beat the heck outta whoever did it!)

Don't throw any corals out just yet, though. They have been known ti come back from a single surviving polyp. Give them time.

Nobody in the Ohio Clubs can lend a hand??
Thats just disturbing!!

ohio,

if you can prove it, I would fill a police report...try to see if the company and repay you the loses...that is just horrible..is why when anyone comes into the house, I am in the same room shadowing their ever move..

I'd definitely file a police report, and, have the folks talk to their insurance company. So sorry. Keep you chin up, you can get back to where you were.

sorry to hear :(

Sexycorals....I have seen a couple of stories like this and you have stepped up every single time! Reefer of the year award goes to you! :)

Thank you everyone for the support. Especially Mike. I called my lfs and I may be able to help around the shop and receive some help restocking. I'm currently soaking the tank in vinegar. My parents are contacting the companies and filing a police report tomorrow.

I am so terribly sorry. Please let me know if I can help.
We had a house fire in 2009 and also worked with serv pro among other companies. We had quite a lot stolen or deemed salvage, jewelry, game system and more (it was an electrical fire which supposibly makes the smoke smell "impossible" to get out of items yet we had many items return to normal.) Very hard in these cases to pinpoint who is responsible.
Good luck and stay strong!

Ohio Reefer,
So sorry to read this. Nothing is worse than having someone purposely kill your tank ( I just went through it). Don't give up, think about the joy your tank brought you and go from there. Although I just finished cycling my tank and added my cuc yesterday it is putting a smile back on my face. What keeps me pushing forward is knowing it will be better than before. Good luck and make sure to keep a photo journal on here to share with everyone. That's what I'm doing. And when I get my pick me ups from SexyCorals the pictures will be non stop! Good luck!

Very very unfortunate. If you were near by, I would gladly donate some frags and spare equipment to get you back up and running! Good luck!!!
