Tank ruined

Wow! I'm new to the hobby and hadn't heard of anything like this. That's sad. Don't give up. Hang in there. Sounds like you have friends to help you get back on track. Glad your parents are filing a police report.

The people that was fixing your house should be bonded and there insurance will help pay for your lost.. I could have your parents contact the people working around your tank and see what can be done.

Sorry about your loss. I really can't make any sense about why anyone would just do something like that. What is the gain for nuking someones tank.

I truly am so sorry to hear that, that is so sad seeing something that you devoted so much time and passion to, taken away. That made me sad just hearing this story.

wow this sux! wish I was closer

but are you sure someone put something in the tank? you said there was a small fire nasty burning chemical smoke will devistate a tank... also chemicals they sprayed cleaning near the tank... I would just hate to think someone would just dump something in your tank...

Unfortunately I'm certain this was a intentional attack. The fire was in the basement, the tank was in my bedroom. The bottle of cleaner was full, but when i came back the canopy was open, and the bottle empty. I tested my water and had my lfs test it, a good amount of ammonia was present in the water, and the cleaner had ammonia in it. My tank was completely cycled, with only 2 fish, and plenty of coral and anemones. Levels stayed at a constant 0. Everything was growing great for me. I can only afford frags, so everything in my tank has been growing for me for a while now. I had a 21 branched frogspawn, and 20 branch hammer, which I raised for 3 years now.

sorry to hear this.. why would somebody do this? killing a tank full of animals for what? some sick twisted fun? did you know the guys or were they just random workers?

I'd file a police report, this hobby isn't cheap, and that's like poisoning someone's dog..

very unfortunate..

I feel for you, I had someone break into my house last night and take all our TVs, then stole all our coral and fish and finally poured bleach in our tank. Bless you and I'm sorry :/

Thank you everyone for the support. Shows how great of a community this truly is. I started about a month ago that went no where. I'm rebuilding with this tank. I have most of the equipment I need.

I agree.

We talked with the insurance company. There is nothing they can do. The equipment just needs to be cleaned and soaked, but they can not replace the rock, sand, coral, fish, anemones, and clams.

Sorry this happened. Such a sick twisted mind to do a thing like this, as my Grandpa used to say "crippled where crutches can't help". I hope you recover from this better than before.

Thank you again to everyone for the support. One major thing that sucks is that I have a continuation of a research product that was wiped out. I ended up as a top 3 finalist last year for Ohio statewide science fair by measuring coral growth, and extension while changing variables. One variable was T5 vs LED, the tank that was wiped out was full of coral and had T5. The biocube had one colony of zoanthids and was lit by LED. Sucks to lose this project after 1.5 years of exploring within it. A store near me is having a sale tommrow and I have some left over Christmas money to possibly buy rock and other things I need. Livestock will come in time. Thanks again, I am stunned by the overwhelming support you all have shown.
