Remember the Feng Shuai tank? Only reef tank they did IMO. It was hilarious. A family wanted a reef tank and obviously had no clue how to care for a reef tank. I love how ATM guys choose fish for their customers. It's hilarious.

"Oh and we chose these nice looking yellow tangs because they are yellow and you all sell french fries and they are yellow." This is ATM logic for fish selection LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

The show is questionable. At least it promotes our hobby. They sent us a few things for our local frag swap so I thought that was pretty cool.

Here is the official response from ATM regarding the Applebees tank: ATM (Tanked) responds to the Coney Island Shark Drama

Exactly, people are misinformed like crazy about this tank. All they do is build and initially stock tanks and unless you have a contract through them then someone else usually takes care of it. If a tank that was featured on the show is no longer there than it probably isn't because ATM failed, it is because the people who were supposed to take care of it failed. I agree a lot of their stocking choices are, IMO, questionable but who knows if they actually keep them that stocked or do it just for the reveal on TV so it looks impressive and then take half the fish out.

These guys know what they're doing, if they didn't they wouldn't be so successful...think about that.

Number one tank builders in the world - rest my case.

And McDonald's is the number 1 restaurant in the world, does that make it good?

Bottom line, yes, they make some decent tanks, and I'm sure they have thousands of satisfied customers, but, if you want the attention, don't complain when you get it. Personally, I wouldn't buy a tank from them based on 2 reasons 1 I don't care for acrylic and 2 I don't like how they act on the show. I'd prefer to give my money to people who don't act like clowns (same reason I'd never do business with Red Jacket, Orange County, West Coast, Gas Monkey, etc.)

So here's my take, hate me if you will...

The show itself is for entertainment and just that. None of their standard builds will ever show up on here. Only the massive rushed jobs to cause drama which people just seem to love. I like to see the builds but am not a fan of the fake corals and decor...

The education level is where it needs to be for reality TV. No one likes to be educated if you enjoy reality TV. You watch it for the WOW and Oooohh ahh moments, not the quarantine, acclimation, proper gluing, proper testing, etc... I love the education shows, but there comes a time where I just want to turn into a vegetable and zone out of reality. This show gives a great opportunity to do that.

So if you are watching it to learn how to set up a tank, stop while you are ahead. If you are watching it to learn proper care techniques, look away while you still can. If you watch the show for some aquarium genre based mind numb ing entertainment, tune in and watch the show.

According to cobalt aquatics Facebook page Tanked / ATM didn't build the tank that burst they built the peanut one not the circular one

From the CNN view (second video) it is the oblong tank that burst. FWIW, anyone's tank can fail. Unfortunately, it happens every day.

I think that was a Living Color tank. Similar show to Tanked.

I'd be shocked if one of theirs gave o.O I did hear of them having another manufacturer do an aquarium and then them stocking it and whatnot, and it giving out...I wonder if this is the same one I heard about before, or done by the same people...?

Are you sure they manufactured the tank?

From their website:
Poseidon Construction is a premeire aquarium insert manufacturer in the United States. We create high quality inserts for fresh water and salt water enviroments. Our custom coral reef insert designs are unique, elegant, and safe for your aquatic life. All our products are custom made to fit your aquariums and are professionally installed by our expert staff.

I stand corrected.. my apologies Dave. Tanked guys did make the faulty tank and Poseidon made the one they moved them to.

If it was Tanked, they use a two part process to bend the acrylics sheets, then bond them together. Otherwise it would have to be made from cell cast acrylic, which has it's own set of problems and costs. It's really easy to develop invisible stress zones in the plastic when heat forming it, especially if it isn't cooled back down slowly enough. That's why it split along its length. You can use polarized light to see these stress's but have never seen them do it.

They made the coral, insert. ATM made the tank. Living Color had one crack last year as well.
