Anyone doing this method have u had an algea problem in your display tank? I was reading that somewhere figure I'd ask the people doing this method
Thanks
Justin

I can only speak for myself. I have not had any algae problems since I started it. Prior to starting AF I had a brief battle with red cyano . I killed that off with chemiclean. I tried reducing feeding etc and nothing worked . Did the treatment and 48 hours later it was gone. It was my last resort. Hasn't been back in over 2 months.

No algae problems with AF at all.

I did not have a big outbreak but last month when I started using AF amino acid with recommended dose I saw some little cyano kinda stuff growing. So I stopped and slowly it disappeared. I will start dosing it half of the recommended dose because I think my tank doesnot need that much.

I had one, but I would say that was do to me changing things. I added a new sump, and new light at the same time I changed over to AF. I also pulled NoPox off line and switched of to the NP Pro and Pro bio S and that might have caused a bloom. but all gone now

So what's the difference between this method and Triton?

Let me quote another reefer by saying this.

Aquaforest is not like the triton method. It is more an off shoot on Zeovit but easier to follow for the average reef keeper.

I have never had an algae or cyno problem in my tank and I started using full doses right off the bat. So might advise against this. I keep my tank very clean. I turkey baste the rocks every water change and siphon sand. So I've never had a nutrient problem. I have seen a decrease in nitrate and phosphate levels since running their SPS program. In fact using this program should do the complete opposite of causing algae if used properly. I have seen other posts attributing cyno to AF products but I suspect there's a lot more to it than their products alone.

Ok guys my shipment is due in on Friday and i will be due for a water change so i want to use the new salt mix. I got the reef salt and i wanted to know if any one has a good conversion per gal on this stuff to 1.026 sg?
I currently use IO reef crystals and mix 2 1/2 cups to 5gal of rodi water. Any help would be much aprishieated.

So what's the difference between this method and Triton?

the major differences are

Triton is using Algae as the nutrient control mechanism
Aquaforest is using Bacteria as the nutrient control mechanism

Both methods, use Balling and use Trace Elements to help coral health, both colours and the skin of corals

and the price point (-)
Triton were the first company to introduce ICP testing which is a useful tool to watch the long term influences and for trouble shooting when issues can't be identified

Aqua forest is also a little more flexable in how you set up your system, as there are more choices,

750 grams or 26.5 Oz will take 5 US Gallons or 19 Ltrs to 1.025

Thank u
Have u done triton and if so why did u change to AF?

Dang thats like 3.3 cups so it looks like it takes more per 5gal then the IO reef crystals

I didn't do TRITON

what I did was use a Ca reactor, FM Traces and Bio Pearl Reactor and follow TRITON set points using the trace Elimentz as supplements if the FM traces were not reaching Triton set points for 12 months
what happened was the tank was fine but I had Algae in the display as I wasn't using a fuge, I learnt a lot about ICP and the effects of trace elements

I was looking for a different bacteria source than the one recommended by the AIO Pearls as there was no local supply
that led me onto AF ProBioS which actually worked better the sand and glass were a lot cleaner, so I gradually changed over to AF products as it suits the way I was running my reef better

currently I use
ProBio S + NP Pro
Foods AF Amino Mix, AF Build, AF Energy, AF Vitality
Components ABC ( only just started)
AF Carbon and Phosphate Minus
Probiotic Salt

I have tried Mico E Iodate Kallium Iron Strontium traces but haven't yet worked out precisely what my reef needs and will balance these with the ICP results and observations how the corals react

I found I needed more than TMRP but it's not an expensive salt, at least in Europe
my theory is its not as dry, which is probably why it mixes faster you can use it as soon as the new water is clear

Perhaps someone already asked, what's the monthly cost of an sps setup, with all the additives plus salt, based on your program dosages and 10% weekly water changes?
Thanks very much!

I think there are just too many variables to consider before anyone can give you a good budget like tank size, demand etc. The only thing I will say its much cheaper compared to Zeovit if you run the full programme.

Impossible question, all depends on size of the aquarium, coral density, current nutrient levels, lighting etc

less than most other brands though

Ok, aside from the demand, what's it cost for a 40 gallon tank, that will house mixed corals, including more demanding sps.

I saw the guide, now I can't find it.. It basically laid out all of the products you will need. So if going from the guide, buying the largest available to cut costs, what would that cost? (I saw someone else get some similar things, but it was 170$? for his lps-softies purchase?)

Maybe I should refine the above thought more...

Like one thing that jumps out at me is Pro Bio S. I see on amazon it's 25$ for 50ml? (nopox is 1000ml for about the same)

I'm curious because I've been hearing a lot of good things.
