Tanks based on Aquaforest Products:

I've never had good luck with sps and I'm on the fence about pulling the trigger on starting the AF line. Maybe I missed it going through the pages here, but does anyone have any before & after pics after a month or two of just changing to AF products (no other changes, i.e. lights, flow, etc)?

Hi guys,
I have been cycling my tank and its been about a 6 -7 weeksnow. Its 65g tank reefer 250. I dosed the Bio S for first 2 weeks. Everything cycled well had an algea outbreak now thatd gone. Did 20% water change 4th week. Started dosing the Pro Bio S and NP Pro the other day. Added a few snails and crab. Paramaters are all ok except my PH is very low 7.4-7,6 tops. What should i do? Larger water change? Also when do i start adding Componets 123+? When i start stocking i assume since nothing is really in there to consume.

Thank you! Can definitely see a few of your frags that have grown well over that time period. And you didn't change anything else? Just trying to isolate the impact of the AF products.
I also change the light the third month, and thus the three months of photos. I noticed a change in growth and health before adding the new lights.

You can increase pH by allowing more fresh air or oxygen in that room. You can run a tube from outside connected to your skimmer airline intake. Water change will not solve it. You only start adding 123 when your system need it that means if you see a drop in alkalinity or Ca or Mg and generally that happens when you have your corals growing. So in your current status you dont need it in near future. Hope this helps.

But explain why or how you have to dose the exact same amount of alk, cal, and mag....they decrease at different rates

Yeah i read up on that. But i cant leave the window open my wife will flip out plus it's getting cold here in NY in the next few weeks. Its funny because i had a 75g tank and i never had this problem. Always 8.2. I got to see if there is anyway i can get a tube to the outside. Can i add an airstone in the sump to keep it aerated? Or will that send microbubbles to my DT. Kalkwasser?

The interesting fact which I found really amazing....
When I started my Ca and Mg were low but my alk was at 7.5. I brought up the Ca and Mg to my desired level which are 430 and 1320 by dosing and then I started 123. Its been more than 2 months I did not touch the dosing amount and I keep a close eye on the levels by measuring every week. Its rock steady at the same level. In this 2 months when I changed water once the Ca and Mg level dropped 20 ppm and I increased the dose 5 ml each then after couple of days they were again back on same level. After that I again cut off the dosing 5ml but I observed they remain same. The Alk vary a bit like 7.3 to 7.6 during this time but generally it stays same. The only issue I am having is my potassium level is at lower side which is 330 to 350 consistently. Everything else remain same. I keep a log in my tank thread you can check that for further reference.

What I did was took a Gatorade bottle drilled holes all over it and filled it with Soda Lime. Then drilled a hole to an air tube which now connects to my air inlet on my protein skimmer. I have gone from my PH being 7.7-8.0 to 81.-8.3. Other than that I haven't done anything else differently.

I did something similar but used the brs c02 scrubber , going to try and get a big bucket from airweld much cheaper then brs

So I have been doing some additional reading on the component 123 and wanted to get everyone's experience.

I have about 170 gallons of water in my system and based on Aquaforests recommended dosage of 50ml per 27 gallons of water I should be dosing about 315 ml per day. That would mean I would go through about 2 sets of the 5l bottles per month. Which would be about $100 for the month.

Is that about what everyone else is experiencing? I realize that it also depends on how heavy your tank is stocked and so on but just trying to get an idea of how much the system will run me per month.

For larger systems they sell the components separate so u can mix it yourself and save money
Pm perry I believe he has the recipe to make it yourself and what u need to buy

I figured you need a little help with your PH and I am glad you stopped by the thread I posted. @120reefkeeper has a great DIY scrubber if you need some other solutions to your PH issue;):)

I will try and raise my mp40 a bit to slightly agitate the top of the water maybe that will help. If not it will either be the tube or ill have to look into that scrubber

The amount of 123 they recommend is generally for a full grown SPS reef. Generally you will need less than that to maintain your levels. In case you find you need more you can always prepare them by mixing all different elements available.
