Very eye catching. It's hard to get indo-pacific gorgonians in the US, especially the photosynthetic kind ;-).
It's not easy to get good speciment in here to. In 14 year i only saw then once or twice at the LFS. First time i got them i couldn't keep them. They grew algae and that's the end of it.

This one i have about 3 years now and it only grew about 2cm from the edges.

Hi Glenn

I have just started researching your method and being a scientist, having control of all your water parameters is exciting to me. I have also recently become a member of your forum (although I can speak Afrikaans, the Dutch language is still a challenge :) )

Your system is an inspiration to all us reefers :)

I currently use the ZeoVit method and it is working for me, although very slowly and was thinking of another method to use that is:
  1. Not so expensive (with many little bottles)
  2. Features additives where I know precisely the contents and concentrations of.
  3. I am also looking for good growth and colour with thriving animals.
I would perhaps like to cut my water changes down to once a month or longer and after having used many different salts would like to formulate my own, knowing precisely what chemical is in each and in the correct ratios.

I have a modest 500L SPS dominated tank and have been in the hobby for ~2 years.

I have some concerns though:
  1. Many more tests increase the costs and time spent testing
  2. Some of the chemicals additives such as boron, strontium e.t.c. are not readily available here in Australia and would need to be sourced at greater expense, possibly from overseas.
  3. Using GFO or iron in my tank has always caused a decline in my SPS corals, that's why I use zeolites, bacteria and a carbon source currently to remove PO4.
  4. Would like to dose a mixture of some elements together to avoid setting up multiple channels of dosers (I currently have only three channels)
Please keep up the open source of knowledge
Cheers, Tony

I use the zeovit method and it is fantastic. I in fact listed my other unit with everything needed cheap.
It really makes a difference in the corals and overall structure with a simple pump each day of the t-handle

@glennf great pictures and tanks, wonderful job. Love the idea of zero water change and would love to try it one day. Good to see that it also produces great LPS and Soft results. That is what I'm currently running so always nice to see.

Good to see a system to challenge Triton. Bravo. I will be fully investigating this philosophy!

It is very easy to implement It has well worth it for me so far. Very glad I tried it. Although I have to admit I have not gotten rid of my saltwater mixing and storing drums yet. I a, planning to sell my 100 gallon saltwater container soon. I will probably always keep my 60 gallon just In case of an emergency, like when all my anomones decide to spawn again.

I only have enough Salt Mix for 5 Gallons left. I couldn't do a water change even if I wanted to. Just went through a 20 hour power outage with no flow and temps in the mid-50's (water temp). Everything made it except for my Kole Tang. Didn't do a water change or anything, no carbon, just measured using DSR methodology and brought parameters back in line. I haven't done a WC in 8 months, so far so good.

With DSR you may decide to run ULNS too.
In fact DSR is an universal tools to get anyehere you want to go. You take control over you tank.

I run slight higher on nutrients, because i want to make sure all corals species are doing well. By running slight rich most corals are happy and i stay clear of crashes.

Thanks mate.
The mayority of dutch reefers run my way now. Because they love the idea of saving time, resources, environment, money and learning at the same time. Last but not least, they like my results[emoji6].

I keep a large variety of coral very succesfully. Most corals are doing so well i seldom get the chance to buy new corals because my tank is overgrown.

My only wish now is to breakdown the "NPS barrier". They are so beautifull[emoji7].

This one is so happy[emoji4]

No waterchanges is common goal.

No need to challenge, just different philosophy how to reach the same goal.
A nice reeftank with no waterchages

You don't frequently need the storage and mixing units anymore.
But having an emergency plan in case of poissoning or any incident/ accident which may require a emergency WC a wise thing to do.

Nice to see the confident in reefers.
Most reefers start panicking when things happens they can't control.

It may be wise to have at least enough saltmix to have an emergency WC in case of "real emergencies" like poisoning and things that are not controllable like overdosing or accidents.

Explanation appreciated or not ?

it is a way to work without water changed and composing your own salt (as a base).

if appreciated i will go ahead and explain how it work for me and the dutch reefing community

How many reefers of the Dutch reefers community actually use DSR? Approximately? And how many keep on using it?

These are just ridiculously beautiful tanks. I'm using ATI Essentials which is the same kind of system in that it doesn't require water changes. I'd try DRS but it's not available in the US.

Not DSR but no waterchanges (I did have an extended power cut about 6 months ago and changed 25o litres), 550 litre water volume, 30 months old.

The macro elements are generic.
The philosophy and approach is different.
DSR also control nutrients.
That makes it a more compleet system.

The "EZ" is a new development for lazy reefers.

Most of my new tanks runs on EZ now

The confusion rests with DSR and the tested/trusted Triton method which successful as is carbon dosing, dosing methods and use of various reactors.
These methods all offer some success and I as a former pet store owner and long time hobbyist have always done little to no water changes and maintained mixes of LPS/SPS with little loss of specimens

I'm in a constant battle with nutrients. It seems like they're either too high or too low. I go from having hair algae or cyano bacteria.

Side question if you don't mind. How would an extended travel or vacation work with this? Similar I guess to the other dosing methods. My dogs I can kennel. Fish tank I can't :) Just wondering how one plans for this with any of these systems. I'll have to do some more reading on this system which isn't a bad thing. Maybe it is easy to incorporate especially if soft and lps corals are fine.
