The official how do you pronounce it thread

I took latin in highschool. it really helped getting my science degree.

All-Uhh-Mini-um I prefer the british pronunciation.
When I first heard it pronounced that way I wasn’t sure what they were saying. After figuring it out I wondered where the extra “i” came from. It’s aluminum, not aluminium. Unless they changed the spelling too.

Sorry @ScottR didn’t mean to steal your thread idea ;Facepalm I guess great minds think alike ;Hilarious;)

I edited the first post and gave you credit.. lol

I don’t need credit man. And great minds do think alike. But my post is retired. Thanks for reviving the topic. Always great to see how things are pronounced across the board.

First time I ever heard a British fellow say al-U- minium was my PADI instructor, I was like "you mean aluminum?" he replied "no, you yanks always butcher it" lol

It’s just like color vs colour in a sense. Center vs centre. Although, in this case it is pronounced differently. I’ve found that if you can understand each other, don’t make a big deal about it.
Here’s an interesting read at how Noah Webster tried to reform the English language. He was somewhat successful and somewhat not. He tried to change the spelling of “machine” to “masheen” and “women” to “wimmen”.
