The storm is coming!!!!!!!

Looks like they are voluntary turning some of the power off up there to try to protect the infrastructure.I have my fingers crossed for ya.

Possible i guess, My dads an electrician and he was explaining we generally are the last to lose power on the island because of the way the grid that my house is wired into is set up. He went into some detail on it but most went over my head. Just happy thus far.

Beh but currently getting hit by the back end of it with just as powerful winds as "the worse"

is sandy as worse as the news made it out to be, the worse hybrid super storm the US has ever seen? my thoughts go out to you guys on the other side.

Yea, i think I would lose it if they voluntarly turned off my power. The thought of it makes me physically sick. The NYC Mayor said during the press conference that I seen on the weather channel that he said they would be shutting down power to some parts of the city.I hope your power keeps flowing my friend.

So far I dont know if its the worst I have ever seen. The rain isnt really that bad.The winds are strong and there was a few house-shaking gusts, but for the past hour or so they have seem to died down.

It's very bad here in central NJ! Power has been out since 6pm and I have trees and shrubs uprooted everywhere. Winds are very strong and the storm surge along the shoreline is devastating. Generator is powering the tank and will be for a while I think. Power will be out for days. My sister on Long Island has 3 feet of water in her house and has lost everything. This storm is as strong and devastating as predicted.

This is like a repeat of last year . Just a different kind of storm . I lost everything last year to a failed inverter .
Power is still on atm . I am ready this year ..
But Mass as a whole does not look good for power .

These are the stats from the grid .

Thats is horrible. My thoughts and prayers go out to your sister and her family.

I just watched the weather channel again and it said the eye of the storm is still 2 hours south of Philly(storm speed). It looks like it might get worse as the night goes on.Im just hoping for the best at this point and keeping an eye on my roof now.It looks like a few shingles got turned into UFO's.

We got the wind now, that was fast. I can imagine what you guys out east are going through. We didn't have the water but we did have the wind in june. so good luck all.

What made Sandy the Superstorm i think because of all the factors that were past, present and future before its landfall such as its approaching speed was matched pretty closed to high tide along jersey and new york coast due to full moon, and because of that the water surge was 12.5 to 13.7 feet along battery park in NY so NY is exactly at the sea level. The most surge it had seen was back in 1880 where the most surge was recorded at 10 feet high. The diameter of the storm was 500 mil to 700 mile. After it made the land fall at atlantic city it met with low pressure system so at the southwest of Sandy which is now WV became blizzard which supposed to dump 3-4 feet of snow. What mainly made it super storm basically was its particular path inward and toward northwest and diameter of the storm which extended from 500-700mile and slow speed it was moving with very sustained winds of 80-95 miles and any area covered by its diameter had 60-70 mil wind gusts which prompted the flooding along north east shores and inland as well.

Its been crazy, On long island Im luckily among the 10% that still have power. So people have been harboring at my house throughout the day.

It sucks, only a couple miles away people have 3 feet of water in the street and someone i know has 5 feet of water in his basement. One of my sisters friends was telling her theres actually bait fish swimming around in her basement. There is alot of national guard activity in my area with the base in my town. Very dangerous out there. The next town over that got hit very very bad is having major looters attack the stores in its town unfortunately. Its sad that people are spending their efforts in that manor instead of helping or just staying out of the way. Whats worse is whenever i do have to go out, I see very little police. In fact the only officer i saw today was sitting in his car doing nothing.. but anyway. Hoping i can get to my friend i know and help him out within the next couple days. This is when i wish i had my jeep with a snorkel to drive to him but my mustang will be killed in it.

This is supposedly a real picture of one of the roads here on the island not to far away from me.

At first I didn't think those two photos went together, but, by looking at the houses and telephone poles and some of the trees, it does seem to match up.
That is really scary though. And I can't even imagine all the flooding. Hurricane Sandy was not a nice lady.

The destruction that Sandy has left is horrible. The Jersey shore is devastated. Parts of the AC boardwalk gone. Seaside Heights piers sustained tons of damage including damage to the amusement rides in which a roller coaster and log flume are in the ocean now.

My heart goes out to all that are affected.

I am in point pleasant no and luckily I am about a mile inland. Pretty much any shore area has devastation with some worse than others. I am very lucky, I only lost a gate. We have been without power for two days now, my tanks have been running on a generator with a lot of help from my vortech backup battery and battery powered air bubblers. Those air bubblers ran for almost 24 hours on two d batteries and we have a ton of batteries. No idea when power will be restored but as long as I can get gas ( which is getting a lot harder) I should be ok.

Few things I have seen while driving around
Dozens upon dozens of trees down on power lines, houses and across streets, most are still there
3 trees down in my parents back yard, two in the neighbors one of which fell on their garage
Two boats sitting on a golf course
Boats sitting on rail road tracks and streets
Traffic signals hanging by a wire over roads
Flooded out streets

What I have seen on Facebook and news sites
Look around for manasquan nj, mantaloking nj, and bayhead nj

Oh and my parents boat is about 50 feet out of its slip laying in a parking lot on some fence so that is nice. Luckily I have checked in with all friends and family and they are ok. My wife's parents live in brigantine and they can't get back on the island yet, they are not expecting good things.

I wish you luck with your search for gasoline, the most important thing is the safety of our family, friends, and fellow citizens. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Luckily I was evacuated but didnt get a flood or even loose power. Sorry to those who did. Im an electrician and we have installed more generators than I can count, it seems this week. I think I might have to break down and buy one myself. They seem expensive at first, until you add up all the time and money invested in your tank.

We very luckily got power back today. Gas shortages are still going strong, my wife counted 450 cars in a line today to get gas. Surrounding areas are still without power, so it is going to be an interesting couple of weeks.

I saw shots of Atlantic City on the news and it looks like it got pummeled. Sad to see all the damage to the pier and boardwalk.
