The storm is coming!!!!!!!

go to the auto parts store spend the $100 on a small generator

personally I wont chance it, it is well worth the $500 for a decent generator to make sure $10,000 dosnt die

homedepot even sells a 7500w generator for $550
You won't find any generators around here.. Every single home depot, lowes, etc. has been sold out for a few days. Luckily Igot one last year, but people are scrambling to stock up on water, batteries, & other supplies for the storm. I went to do some grocery shopping this morning and it was a mad house. I also had to wait 25 minutes at the gas station to fill up gas cans for the generator... crazy! Best of luck to everyone that will be effected by the storm.

I went out looking today for one. They have tons of christmas stuff but not one generator.

I have a small electric camping battery generator thingy. Lol has car jumpers and 2 car charger ports. I'm going to attempt to find the charger, get it charged and find myself a adapter from regular outlet power to male car charger style to run a powerhead. But mainly banging on not losing power for too long.

Well, it looks like Pa,Nj,and Ny are gonna get hit pretty hard. They did move the "landfall" area down a little so my city hopefully wont get hit by the eye of storm. They did say the storm is 450 MILES WIDE!!!It scares me that Florida got hit that hard and the eye of the storm was 80-100 miles off shore. There are no generators for sale in my area except for on CL.After talking to a family member on the phone this morning who is a Navy diver, it doesnt look too positive for formely mentioned states.

Since I do NOT have a generator, here is my gameplan(please give ideas)
If the power goes out:

I have 35 gallons of freshly made saltwater ready to go.
20 gallons of rodi
2 battery powered bubblers that i will start to use immediatly
going to wrap my tank in blankets to try to conserve the heat in it immediatly
Also have the option of using the womens new car(has a plugin thingy) to power the skimmer, return pump, and powerheads(dont know how long she'll let me do it)
manually aggetate the water if needed

anything else I can do without a generator?

Also wanna wish everyone else the best of luck with the storm, and with anything else, please remember your and your family's safety comes first.

Just want to add my good luck wishes and prayers to all of you. I lost a lionfish this summer when the a/c went out and no way to cool his tank. Luckily everything alse came out ok.

You can go to an auto parts store and buy a power inverter to run off your car battery. Not as good as a generator, but will run a heater out powerhead in a bind.

As soon as im out of work im gonna stop at autozone and see if I can pick one up.

all generators were sold out, I found one at an motorcycle dealership but the owner said its the last one and he wants double the money for it. I didn't feel like getting ***** so I just went and bought tons of batteries and bubblers. I hope the black out won't last that long. I guess after this I will find out which one of my corals are hardy as hell.

Wow If a store owner tried to charge me double for something because they knew people were in a bind I would make sure I went out of my way to make sure my friends and family and anybody else I knew didn't shop from them...Good luck to everybody out there!

I picked up a 400 watt power inverter from advance auto for 50. Should be good enough to get me through to the end. Good luck everyone. Last one was a week of no power for me. I hope its less this time.

What power inverter would I need if I buy 2 marine batteries. How do I charge the batteries? This looks like it keeps the batteries charged but there is no way to get it delivered in time. Newegg.com - AIMS 1500 Watt Pure Sine Power Inverter I am looking at a 300 watt heater 90 watt return pump and a 18 watt mag 8 in tank pump.

Best wishes and prayers for all of you.
Generator is the best way to go.
We just finished ours yesterday. Have been without electricity in this area before for over 24 hours. Worried my self sick over my tank!!
Battery operated aerators are great for not a whole lot of money.

Despite only have hermit crabs and snails in the DT, I have 2 emergency air stones in there that only come on if the powers goes off. I hope everyone stays safe and makes it through.

Picked up 2 battery operated pumps in fishing area at Wal-Mart because lfs was sold out. Picked up 8 d batteries for them too. All cost me under 50 bucks, not bad. Justgotta get a way of heating the tank.. picturing a glass box atop a campfire at a safe height.. lol

Back in 2008 when what was left over from Hurricane Ike came through Ohio the town I live in was without power for 6-9 days depending on where you live. Since 2007 we have had 3 muli-day power outages. My family has a small generator that we use to run the fridge and fans in the summer and in the winter the fridge and a portable space heater and we all just stay in one room. The SCUBA diver in me had plenty of lights that are well used during outages (wife loves having lights she can take into the shower without a problem). My neigbor has a LARGE portable generator and I asked him about it, will share the basics here and if anyone wants more they can PM me.

He got a portable 9800 watt generator off the internet, with freight shipping it was around $1,000. He contacted an electrician and had a generator transfer box put on his house. His has a 6 circuit, but they make a ten and larger. His box is like its own mini curcuit breaker that is wired directly to his main circuit box. Cost him about $500 to have the electrician put in the box. Total investment, just under $1500. With that he can run almost his entire house, including his furnace but not the AC.

Sorry guys. They are expecting it to be very bad. I live in Alabama and my husband works for the power company down here. They sent him and several crews up your way Saturday morning ahead of the storm so they can already be there when it hits and start restoring power. I pray for everyone's safety. The wind here is pretty bad, so I can only imagine what it will be like up there.

we learned back in the ice storm of 98' when we were without power for 17 days in the middle of winter. I never want to have to melt snow and ice for water again
