The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

I’d look at flashers! Paracheilinus, Cirrhilabrus, Halichoeres and Macropharyngodon for a 150G. I don’t believe you have tangs or hyper fish in your system so almost all these species will work.

A bigger hint on the new wrasse hopefully coming home this week;

She is a relative of this gorgeous fella. I’ll drop the biggest hint if she comes home.

@i cant think I do have a blue hippo and a Desjardini tang.
If you use an acclimation box you may be able to introduce flashers, I wouldn’t do delicate species of fairies though. This is species like Rhomboidalis, Isosceles, Brunneus. I would instead go for more boisterous species like Finifenmaa, Aquamarinus, Flavidorsalis. If I’m honest, there are very few truly peaceful species of fairy, most will be good in that tank.

Ahh, thank you. I am buying a mirror for in the tank and see if I can distract the Desjardini. He gives me the most trouble everyone else is peaceful. I'll look at those other species and see how difficult they are to find.

Look up UNWD. Jay Hemdal has a thread on it. Also cupramine is not as fish safe as copper power and your wrasse may struggle with it unfortunately. With wrasse and other copper sensitive fish it is always best to use chelated copper over ionic.
Hm wild. My exquisite wrasse showed signs of UMWD today. Everyone else is happy, no other changes. And all quarantined.

He was all bent up and swiming in a circle like a pinwheel. Warning sad wrasse pics ;(

No marks or spots, he just kept flashing wild colors and being crazy erratic than still. Looks pretty heathy. Chubby, full color, no signs of illness. All the wrasse eat well. Will update if anymore drop off.

This may also be a spinal injury caused from aggression or stress.

Not that it couldn't happen, but surprisingly i have seen zero aggression twords this lttle dude. Only one who gets chased is the pintail. Hope its simple and not some terrible tank ending disaster lol
Thank you!

Yes the symptoms were exactly the same...with both fishes...the poor Lubbock even tried to eat, despite the difficulty in swimming...
I'm in day 4 and all wrasses are ok in Cupramine yet, but I'm gonna do just the 14 days and I've increased the levels very slowly because I was affraid of doing harm to them.
I took like 4 days to reach the therapeutic dose. And I'm keeping it in 0.3 not 0.5 as well.

Likely UNWD. Spinal injury typically with wrasse being startled and striking glass or rock is obviously immediate. Wrasse fine one minute then not the next. May have snout damage as well. I had this happen with a hooded flame wrasse striking side of bucket. Went downhill quickly within a day.

Does anyone here have a trusted online store for purchasing wrasses? I found one place that has a decent selection but I have never heard of them it’s called Pete’s aquarium.

I’ve had good luck with leopard wrasses from Michael’s NYAquatics.

I’m hesitant about delicate wrasses shipping, but since they’re only 200mi away it’s less stressful. Also they will add sand to the bag when requested, which reduces stress for sand sleepers.

Okay, as it is likely to come home tomorrow, here is the biggest hint on my new wrasse;
Crabby was fairly well known for owning one and it was gorgeous. I also used to call this species ugly.
