Managed to catch my tuskfish which had been terrorising my grouper and maori wrasse.
My grouper has 2 weird bare looking patches, one on his forehead and one on his side that i'm pretty sure are from tuskfish aggression. He has also been quite gray the past few weeks, the first week he was in the tank he was bright red. As soon as i put the tusk in an acclimation box i released the maori from his one.
My plan is to move the box to the sump next week for an additional week so the maori can settle in as he's super timid and he even gets intimated by my coral beauty.

Have a foxface and a CBB slated for November, and then I am working on a cyaneus + 1. The +1 could be an angulatus, filamentosus, lineopunctatus or flavianalis.. any idea which flasher would pair best with a cyaneus?

Honestly, I’d say either flavianalis or angulatus would mix better with cyaneus.

Filamentosus and Lineopunctatus may be a bit too close in relation

I keep angulatus with cyaneus. No issues. 36 gallon bowfront with seahorses, mandarins, pipefish, garden eels, and jawfish.

So “the” hogfish, Lachnolaimus maximus, is not that closely related to the hogfish genus Bodianus. In fact many other species such as the chiseltooth wrasse and all tusk fish are more closely related. Does that mean tuskfish, chiseltooth wrasse, gropers (the wrasse not the people), creole, sheepshead, cale (???), whiting (wrasse??), and the blue banded wrasse are all hogfish just as much as Bodianus is?

In other insomnia googling news. As we all know Halichoeres means salt-pig (hali means salt, choires means pig). Coris on the other hand means maiden as in a young woman.

They also live in the mere (sea in old English) so I guess they are mermaids @OrchidMiss

Well, i figured it out. I have a lot of stray voltage in my tank which is probably the cause of the weird behaviour of the grouper and raw patches. Have an open cut on my finger and i get badly zapped whenever i even lightly tap the tank. Not sure how to fix it, i took out all the devices and plugged them into a new powerboard, then did some cable management and the issue isn't fixed. I think the majority of the voltage is coming from my red sea pumps and stuff. If anyone has any ides i'd be grateful, i really don't know much about electricity

I don't have a wall outlet near the tank. Only 2 power strips connected to the wall by a 3m extension cord

Anyone here have any experience with Pseudolabrus species, specifically P.guentheri? They're very rarely available in australia and i think i've seen some other members here keep them before. Info on them is very scarce, one shop that had one here in Australia said that the one they had killed every other fish in the store tank. Hopefully that was a once off and Pseudolabrus aren't more evil versions of Thalassoma

Their closest relative’s taxonomically are novaculines and Coris wrasse. Both are fairly aggressive but I don’t know much about them in particular

It can plug into an outlet on your power strip which is grounded.

One of the LFS is having a sale today so picked 2 common wrasses. Will get better pics when I acclimate them.

Halichoeres chrysus wanted a leucoxanthus but the chrysus will do.

Cirrhilabrus rubripinnis let’s see how it does with the Paracheilinus carpenteri


Placing them in the softy tank before moving them to the newer system as all other fish were qt and don’t want to risk it.

How are Pixy wrasses (Coris pictoides)? There's one available here which is strangely the first time ive ever seen them sold here despite them being abundant where most australian collectors operate. I'm assuming they're not as boisterous as red coris, maybe similar to most Halichoeres?

Currently i have a 10cm spanish hog (who's super chill) a 7cm lennardi, 15cm harlequin tusk (in timeout for bullying my grouper and maori) and a 12cm floral maori wrasse. I'm planning on getting 2-3 other anampses and maybe a halichoeres or two and then in a few months some more aggressive wrasse like C.gaimard. Wondering if the pixy will get along with the anampses mainly
Edit: got the supplier to send me a video of the pixy, they actually have a large initial phase pixy and a smaller one. In the video i also spotted they had a Coris dorsomacula (christmas wrasse) the same size as the larger pixy. They said it was the same. I reckon i'll just grab both species and hope they're chill.
