It is a sad thing to think about. But 70somthing percent of the earth is water, these fish inhabit about 5 percent of it are over a million times more evolved then us humans are, Im sure over collection isnt going to be much of an issue. Even all the surveys are 95% done by someone riding around in a plane. Stuff like less algae or a mass predators maybe, only because somthing like that can drastically reduce the population and even then i dont see it much of a problem. The one thing i sorta do agree on with this short film, is the fish often arent kept for over 5 years, for them to be bounced around and you know where that leads too =/

Well I agree there is an impact from our hobby on reef life, I think other things (pollution, reef bleaching/destruction etc) that do much more damage than our hobby does and I feel like we are just easier to targets.

Not to degrade what is happening because it is, But they are talking about the Hawaiian islands and cardinalfish ( as far as I know) are not found in the Hawaiian area

And like 99% of cardinalfish are captive bread these days or at least the most popular ones are.

True but if you watch their moving images you see different fish on it. I don't remember which fish are native to Hawaii I just know the cardinalfish are not that they are endangered and your right mostly captive bred now

I'm not surprised. With the latest documentary of cyanide being used to get small fish, other reef forums that welcome over stocked nanos, LFS, and average joe's not quarantining wild caught fish, it was bound to happen. Is anyone else surprised? Has apathy EVER taken hold of civilization to the point where everything is accepted? *sigh*
