This one's for the ladies

They come in small too. I ordered the medium since some comments said they run small and that the small are essentially child sized. The medium work for me with just a small it of extra room for fingernails at the end. :)
I wonder what is considered child sized, because I pretty much do have child sized hands lol. I will have to go back and see if there are measurements. Thanks for the tip:)

I have mid arm gloves I use if I need to really reach in, otherwise I really wash down and then use medical gloves. Right now my tank is mostly a FOWLER only because it has 7 frags in it. But I have one anemone so their fore the medical gloves and use only paper towels to dry
Hey I would still consider that a reef;) I use paper towels after washing in the sink to get the tap water off, but I have a designated dish towel next to the tank so I am not dripping all over the floor when I need to grab something. I only wash it with hot water same as you would with filter socks.

I'm not sure. In most brands, I buy women's small gloves.

Anyone have trouble with air freshener or candles? I use candles frequently and near my reef tank. No problems. I hear it is the plug in kind that cause trouble.

I believe aerosols are the bigger worry, like the plug ins or spray cans. Most candles should be fine. You can still use plug ins and such, I just wouldn't put them near the tank:) I know I have sprayed febreeze in the vicinity of my tanks not thinking and have had no adverse effects. I doubt the small drops would hurt a bigger tank, but we can never be too careful;)

I was thinking about this last week when my polish was chipping. It was falling all over the place, but I always wear gloves. I know I should do a better job of washing soap off my arm. My tank is tall so I always go shoulder deep when I reach in.

Try rubbing salt on your arms as you wash, it'll help get the soap off and make your skin feel baby smooth:) I always wondered about tall tanks and deodorant. My tank is only 18" and my armpits still get soaked if I have to reach all the way in, so I sometimes have to salt scrub my deodorant off too lol.

I use this awesome soap http://www.reefsuds.com/ before putting my hands anywhere near my tank, I find I am using this more than my normal soap as it feels better on my hands.

The reef suds looks like a salt soap. They usually are made of coconut oil and sea salt (and lye of course). Salt soap is great for exfoliating.

It definitely has salt in it as the crystals show on the outside as it dries after use. All I know is it feels good on my hands and it has not caused any issues with my tank and I have a lot of sps to worry about. It's a bit dearer than regular soap but if it doesn't harm my tank then as far as I'm concerned it's worth it.

All I need now is a tank friendly fly spray and I'm set as flies in Australia are a massive pain in the you know what.

So I have to be careful in the Mornings because I find myself sticking my hands in my tank while i put my makeup on i.e.- while waiting for primer or foundation to set. I'm also leery of getting weird stuff in my tank when I clean my house. family doesnt really understand because to them, water is water and "what's the big deal?"

That's exactly why I just don't use deodorant :D

Ha mine know to just stay far away from the tanks or else lol. I do most of the cleaning so I don't have to worry about someone spraying something too close to the tanks (but boy do I wish I had to worry about that occasionally haha). I almost exclusively use vinegar for cleaning anyway except for the floors, but I use a floor mate so it doesn't splash water everywhere. The solution to your problem is easy, just be lazy like me and don't wear makeup 90% of the time lol. Or on days that you want to be fancy you can go all out and use some powder and mascara;) I did not know things like primer and foundation even had to "set", I am very obviously a poor excuse for a woman lol

I have small hands (size 4.5 ring finger to give you an idea), and I finally found long gloves that work in the tank for me. They are Apex. I bought them through Amazon. I got the medium size, and they are surprisingly just a touch longer than my fingers.

I almost always have lotion on, so I *try* to keep my hands out of the tank unless I have gloves on.
I don't have much room left in my tank so every time I dip my hand in. I get stung pretty bad or scratch my arm on an acro. I bought thin gloves with the fingers already cut off. They are similar to bridal gloves...short and long ones. I haven't had a scratch since I had the gloves. I know my friends made fun of me, but it's okay.

Hmmm, guess I better post - beginning with those lotions....in winter I use a lot of lotion because of exposure to water daily at work. As far as other products - don't use them. My vacuum has a hepa filter bag - dust and fur balls in nothing out... But air. I see an occasional cat hair. They do not climb the tank as it is rimless and swimming is not an option. No nail
Polish or acrylics as I believe the binding agents will leach eventually. I'd rather buy a coral than nail polish. I reserve the latter part of my days off for reef maintenance as I know not to bother with lotions until I'm finished. I usually wash with just warm water up to the elbows and dry off with a cotton towel if I have to walk away for any reason. I just try to keep it very simple. I do use gloves if my clowns get too feisty.

Well...I'm not a woman but I'm pretty knowledgeable when it comes to fish as this has been my hobby for quite a few years. It's a hobby that I'm always learning and everytime I think I know what I'm doing, I end up finding a better way of doing it. In my opinion, it is best to keep your hands out of the tank unless absolutely necessary. I have four tanks and the only time my hands ever go into the tank is to put seaweed on a clip for my herbivores. I do all my water changes with a python. I extended the bottom suction part of it so my hands wouldn't have to go into the tank. I only use it to put water back into the tank. I use a separate suction that is also extended that I use to vacuum the substrate. Besides feeding seaweed, the only other times my hands go into the tank is pulling out electrical equipment such as heaters, uv sterilizers , and protein skimmers every month or so for inspection and cleaning. I use the double sided magnets to clean my tank glass. Hands never go into the tank for that. In a closed environment such as a tank, it's very very important to not contaminate it with health and beauty products. If I do need to put my arm into a tank, then I wash with pure water my entire arm length. I like your suggestion about keeping hair pulled back. Hairs with mousse and hairspray can't be good for our fish. It's already easy enough for things to go wrong with a tank, so I certainly don't want to do anything to make matters worse. In my opinion, most of us have tons of money put into our tanks, so it's common sense to me that we don't inadvertently contaminate our fish and corals and end up killing the whole tank. Thanks for bringing this up. It's a good post.

And I suppose men as well, I won't judge if you have the knowledge:) I want to talk about beauty products and their potential impact on our tanks. I painted my nails for the first time in, well I honestly don't remember, for my sisters bridal shower yesterday. It got me thinking about the possible negative effects it could have on my tanks. So let's talk about things like nail polish, lotions, makeup, hair products (heck hair in general, I've found strands of my decently long hair floating in the tank before) and any other beauty products that may hurt our tanks. We can also talk about what we do to prevent them from impacting our tanks. For example I try to keep my hair pulled up when working in the tanks, I also have a hand scrubbing ritual that I do with table salt before my hands go near the tank to get lotion and soap residue off of my skin. I have also taken to using coconut oil as my main moisturizer because it is supposed to be reef safe, although I can't imagine the skimmer would like it in large quantities lol:)

Call me crazy but I wear full length gloves anytime I put my hands in the tank. I'm a machinist so I handle metals all day...

I have wondered about what is safe and what is not, I have 4 x very very hairy dogs and their hair gets every where and i brush them every day I some times think my fish will be coughing up a hair ball
