Red Sea makes a kit that will do all this for you. I use it in every one of my new tanks. It will have everything you need with guessing

It gives you a day by day plan on what to add from the kit. It will give you all you need to cycle with good bacteria as well. I'm not sure what the ingredients are but I know it works and it's easy to use

No. Surfactant is detergent.

It was with cleaning supplies. But I have one of those super walmarts it's huge. Some supermarket has to have it

Ok so after many frustrating calls around my town I finally found pure ammonia....Walmart didn't have it, nor did tsc, Campbell's, Walgreen's, shopko, Kmart, none of them had it...which really upset me since they would be the main ones to have it. The only store I found was a coborns grocery store . Would the tetra safe bacteria starter work for the bacteria?

In all honesty. I never used one of those bacteria in a bottle. I just used ammonia. It takes longer that way. But in my opinion it's the best way. It can take anywhere from 6-12 weeks. I dosed till I got to 4ppm ammonia. Then let it sit. Wait a 2-3 weeks. Start testing. You should see nitrite. Ammonia will start to drop. Keep dosing ammonia to keep it at 4ppm. When you dose to 4ppm and the next day your at zero. And your at 0ppm nitrites your done. Than you can add all the fish you want. Your rock is handling 4ppm ammonia a day. Way more then you would be with safe start. I feel the bacteria in the bottle just masks the ammonia from the test kits. If you read the back of the bottle it tells you to only add 1 fish I think? Just like doing a fish in cycle.

Would adding an already live rock do the trick? It would have the bacteria on it already and should spread it to the others correct?
