Torch and Xenia "shriveling"

I admit i didnt read it all... all theposts. Sounds like po4 is at 0? And you run gfo? Just IMO gfo is dangerous. And if po4 is stripped lps corals are the first to the hit. I have tried chemicals but found nothing is best, for me. No carbon no gfo or chemithis or that. Just live rock a filter sock and a skimmer. Once the tank is mature it runs it self in that reguard

If you ever figure out what killed your xenia, please let the rest of us know...

If i am not mistaken xenia has been know to die with no known cause quite often. I read an article about it somewhere lol

I've pulled the Purigen and ChemiPure over two weeks ago. Nitrates are up and PO4 was up a bit a few days ago. PO4 is back to zero. Nitrates are still up. Only have love rock and some chaeto now. Some corals seen to have responded well (cup coral is more "active" while others, like the one in the photo, have withered. Remaining Xenia is fine. Torch is 99% dead.

You could dose phosphates, or over feed....i hae this issue back when i had my 29g. Nomatter what i did phosphates were always 0. Lost some acans, they starved. Mabe your chaeto is working too well lol

I may try phosphates. I've been feeding a lot heavier since pulling the chemicals. Maybe I was under feeding as the fish have been pigging out. And maybe my cleanup crew is too good.

Try adding an air bubbler to the back chamber!
It really helped me maintain a better ph and I saw a definite improvement in my corals!

But its hard in that what we do today doesn't reward or punish us for weeks sometimes. So feeding hard today wont show for a while.

Im not sure how quicly a Po or No dose would work, I belive red sea has a line of them I think thats safest. But theres the rub, trying to not to do too many things at once

It usually thrives in a high nutrient environment, but shrivels away & dies in a low nutrient one. I had a big dirty fish tank where xenia (and other soft corals) would running rampant, but every time I tried some in my zero everything SPS reef it would die.

That may explain the sudden death syndrome they discussed. Also if the op has certain algaes or dinos this wouldsuck the po4 to 0...causing this issues i wouldthink

Also - only about half the Xenia died off. The rest is still fine.

I'm not too worried about the Xenia. More about the torch and others. I've had the Xenia in the tank for months. One of the first I got.

I use my frogspawn, similar to a torch, to judge when my phosphates drop. When they stay closed it usually tells me my po4 is low. It seems unfortunate that yours may be a gonner. To raise my po4 when i had a dino problem iwould by cheap mysis cubes and throw one a day in my filter sock. Didnt want my fish eating the crappy food but it goty levels up

I like the feeding more option over dosing phosphates. I use AminOmega by brightwells to soak my brine shrimp daily and it is fine enough that corals love it as well. My buddy does the same and it made the difference between having to dose phosphates and not for him in his ULNS tank. If you choose the dosing option just be careful as things can go the opposite route pretty quickly and you could run into a high phosphate issue instead of low. Just take it slow and test if needed. Look at a product called
Reef Nutrition Oyster-Feast this stuff is nutrient packed and small micron size so most things can eat it. You may even illicit a feeding response in the Xenia.

Hesitant, as I am just coming off a 76 day fallow period after Brooks ransacked my DT. Lost all but one fish. Am in the process of restocking and the last added fish will go in this Sunday.

The corals thrived while tank was going fallow. I added some food to the tank every week or so for the cleaner crew and corals. The Xenia and Torch started looking bad about 2 weeks after adding the first fish back in. Added a Pajama Cardinalfish - the surviror of the Brooks outbreak, and 2 new Ocellaris Clowns. Never see anything bothering the corals.

I went ahead and pulled the Purigen and the ChemiPure from the inTank "tower". I am "regenerating" the Purigen and have an unopened ChemiPure in my stock so I can throw them back in if needed. I guess now it's just a water testing and waiting game? Who woulda thought that clean could be bad? LOL

crazy you mention how your corals looked good until you added fish back in... I'm going through the same thing as well. 76 day fallow period. I put several hundreds of dollars worth of coral in my tank. Once I added 2 fish back in that survived, My candy canes and a few SPS started to shrivel. One of my go to guys suggested I pull my reactor w/ GFO, GAC, and purigen. My levels were No3 2.5 and Po4 .03. 2 weeks later my nutrients are up to No3 10 and Po4 .073. I'm seeing very mild improvements in my corals but it has only been 2 weeks. Right now I have a oversized skimmer, marine pure brick, and marine pure balls along w/ weekly 10% WC to maintain these nutrients. I'll let you know in a few more weeks if things continue to improve. But I totally get the frustration and confusion of increasing your bioload and then being told to decrease your filtration
