Trying to find chloroquine phosphate

I got mine in yesterday. Quickly wrapped it up in a brown paper sack and stuck it in the fridge. Got a ways to go before the new 120 is finished and ready for fish. I got the back glass painted a few hours ago. Waiting for it to dry so I can pull the tape off.

Keep us posted on your experience with it. @Manthanol
Yes will do, planning to do 21 days prophylactic on 2 goldflakes clown, 1 lightning clown, 1 randall goby, 1 neon goby and 1 royal gramma. They just got out of TTM w Prazi. I just can't believe the difficulty in finding pharmaceutical grade CP in powder form. My compounding pharmacy (great place for USP grade meds like metro, etc.) doesn't carry it because there are better malaria medications out there. I even asked a patient of my (I see him every 6 mos) who's a vet to write a CP Rx for me WITHOUT success, even after sending him all the articles posted by Humblefish. LOL

I just purchased Chloroquine Phosphate from eBay and will be delivered in two days. Seems to me there are 2-3 vendors selling CP and I got the one in the black bag on the picture. I figured this guy(AquaAlgae) cares enough about his product to put it in a light proof container. I will report soon on the quality of this CP.
Please do keep us posted .Luck with everything .

I'll tell ya ,you'll never see clearer water than with CP .I have gotten all fish mentioned with exception of the Royal Gramma through CP . Frozen Brine with garlic additive and vitamins worked great to get everyone back to eating .

+1 That's good to know and I will also give garlic a try this time, thanks. I have three 10 gal QT set up for this eBay CP and the fishes are not showing any visible signs of disease yet (good for the fishes). This could give a false result on this eBay CP but since the DT is going fallow for 76 days we will know for sure then.

Just finished doing a 16 gallon water change on my 20 gallon QT. Prepped and ready for my Live Aquaria order tomorrow.

Test subjects:
2-Pakistan butterflyfish
1-blue spot toby puffer

This will be my first attempt at QT'ing with CP.

Canister filter rated for 75 gallon (housing marinepur spheres, sponge, and filter floss).

5-15 gallon tetra for sole purpose of running carbon (will be unplugged once tank is medicated).

5w UV-(will be unplugged once CP is added and plugged back in after 21 days of treatment)

100w Aqueon heater

Light is from a terrarium I built a few years ago. Put a 100w LED soft White House bulb in it. Sticks to the back glass and hangs over top. (Will just be used a couple minutes a day to inspect fish in QT.

Wish me luck!

I have ordered from the seller OP listed very recently actually. I am currently treating my display tank. All of my fish were heavily infected with velvet as of 10/6. I treated the display on that day (after removing whatever inverts I could catch). My fish have all recovered from velvet as of this writing. I am still actively treating my display, I re-dosed some CP this weekend, probably 1/4 the normal dose, to account for degradation by my biofilter. So far so good. Can anyone offer any tips as to how long I should maintain CP levels to eradicate velvet? I have heard anywhere from 14 to 30 days. I am not concerned with ich, only velvet.

Good luck!!

Package arrived about 30 minutes ago and am having to drip acclimate. 1.019 in the bags and 1.023 in the QT. I'll get them introduced and tucked in for the night and try feeding tomorrow before dosing CP and Prazi.

Got through the first night just fine and everyone showed good feeding response this morning. The puffer did really well with eating and 1 of the butterflyfish. The second butterflyfish (smaller) ate some but wasn't as energetic about it.

I'll get off work this afternoon at 3 and feed a small amount again. Then it's med time before bed time!

Got home this afternoon and fed the fish in QT. They all ate well and I proceeded to dose prazipro.

The puffer has colored up quite a bit and was looking pretty good this afternoon.

@Humblefish
Do you recommend running CP and Prazipro together? I've dosed the prazi already but am hesitant to add the CP unless it is ok to do so.

I add dose of PraziPro. Wait 5 days. Do 50% water change. Run 2nd dose of PraziPro. Wait 7 days. Do 50% water change. Then add CP for 21 days. Single dose of CP is sufficient. If you do water change need to add appropriate dose of CP to new water before you add it.

Does your method change if ich or velvet show up during the prazi treatment?

Yes. I have not combined the meds but if ich or velvet is suspected at anytime I will treat with the CP at that point. Had a flame angel that was in its 2nd day of first PraziPro dose that started flashing and had those dreaded white dots appear. Ran charcoal for 24 hours and did 50% water change to clear the PraziPro and dosed CP. Symptoms cleared in 4-5 days but kept her in CP for 21 days. Treated with PraziPro after CP treatment ended. She did great and continues to do well in DT

Great! Thanks. I've already dosed the prazi so will wait and run again in 5 days after a water change.

Update:

Fish are still eating ok. The puffer is by far the better eater of the group. The butterflies don't seem to like eating from the water column and aren't near as quick to eat as the puffer. They do pick some food off the bottom glass but hoping their food intake improves so they start fattening up.

Today is day 4 of the first round of Prazi. I did an 8 gallon water change on my 30g DT on Friday and saved the water to change out the QT tomorrow. After the change I'll re dose prazi for 7 days if no other parasites are spotted.

How is the CP doing? Were you able to test it yet? I've got another round of Prazi before I'll test.

Disaster struck today while doing a water change in my QT!

I was syphoning water out and one of the Pakistan Butterflyfish got pulled and stuck to the hose. It was very brief and I plugged the other end and got him off. He was breathing a little heavy after the incident but not anything I thought was excessive. I watched him for a while and he seamed like he was doing fine except for the faster breathing. I went ahead and dosed the CP and watched longer and all seemed fine. I left to do some other things and in the afternoon went to check on everyone and he had gotten stuck to the intake of the canister filter and was barely alive (breathing every couple seconds and staying upside down). Within minutes of getting him off the intake he quit breathing. I don't think the issue was at all related to the CP as the other fish are doing well and eating good this evening. I feel bad cuz I should have been paying closer attention while syphoning.

What a bummer. They were doing great too :(
