Tswifty's 40g Rimless

wowoweeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!tissue phu-lease

That is what I need right there - SWEET setup!

Time to look for a nice starfire cube....

^+1....i agree
Thanks guys. I'm hoping to borrow a PAR meter to do some readings later this week or next week (whenever I have the time) so I can see what's going on in there. The tank is definitely lit better with 2 pendants though, and turning them perpendicular seems to have thrown a lot of light towards the back of the tank finally.

Just so you guys know, this tank is acrylic, not starfire glass. Not that it matters much, it's an awesome tank anyway you look at it :)

TJ--I like the look with the two lights a lot better than one. Just looks brighter which I like. Looking great all around.

Thanks Nate. I feel like some of my corals located near the back and corners of the tank were suffering somewhat due to lack of light. Hopefully this will help them out. I actually want to move to SE 400w lighting, but will have to stick with this setup for the time being.

what kind of salt do you use? I noticed your magnesium stays pretty high and constant and i like that but i cant keep my mag over 1250. Can you also post how you made that canopy? Im interested in doing the same thing. Thanks.

I use a 50/50 blend of Instant Ocean and Coralife. I also dose Magnesium to my tank twice a week.

I used a pocket hole jig to help construct the frame, then the skin and trim were attached to the frame with a nail gun.

When I restarted my tank, I used all R/O water being mixed with Instant Ocean salt and got a Magnesium reading close to 1400. I'm not sure if this is typical of IO salt or not, but that was my most recent result with it.

Wow... That's definitely not normal. Instant Ocean is known for having pretty low levels of both Ca & Mag, but posts a high Alkalinity... which makes it a great candidate for mixing with other salts.

Huh...I never added any magnesium to my tank at all, so I'm not sure how it got in there, but it is for sure, just double checked to make sure I'm not crazy. I'm sure my kalkwasser isn't adding any magnesium to the tank :)

I mean it's not crazy to get a batch that doesn't line up with the standard, but the posted Instant Ocean values when mixed to a Specific Gravity of 1.0264 (35 ppt) are:

Ca: 350 ppm
Alk: 12 dKH
Mag: 1070 ppm

Thank you. No it's a little different. 30" Long x 22" Wide x 16" Tall

Only showin the good ones on here huh? Well, they were worth a second look for me anyway, so I guess there's no harm in it. Wanna see more of those nightmares, v-day massacres, and candy apple reds :)

Haha... yep, no need for the charity case corals over here. I'll add pics of them once they color up again. The Candy Apples and Nightmares are doing well. I can't say the same for the V-Day Massacres. They've been very retracted for about a week. I'm guessing they don't like the added light, so I may need to find a less intense area for them.
