Tswifty's 40g Rimless

tank looks great an i like how you showed use your par readings.
so now i know when i get my sunset wher to put it.
:)

Wow, Tswifty luv the tank & im feelin the build!
I have similiar tank its 40g infinity overflow tank built out of african mohagany with custom sump but i was thinking of selling it or replumbing it cuz its for low current corals but all in all its awesome, it would be even cooler if i replumb it!

great build and tank
love the sand bed lots of goodies
you have a beautiful tank! i love the rimless and your aquascaping. your tank also looks really clear and healthy ....
Great job! Your tank looks awesome!
Thanks guys. :)
awesome looking tank! Has your vortech been too much flow for the corals in front?
Thank you. Yes, I have had some trouble with smaller frags located directly in front of the Vortech. However, once they encrust, and grow a bit... they seem to do fine. It took me a few corals to learn that lesson though. :(
Nice work. Although you seem to have very high PAR readings I like your idea of a single 400w MH and I would use a few VHO Actinic bulbs. Also a reflector design with a more focused beam may make coral placement easier.
Thank you. Yes I agree the PAR readings are higher than I would like for my LPS and Palys. However, I would like to keep most of my SPS in 400-600 PAR, but with how shallow my tank is it's very difficult to get a range of values that are ideal for all the inhabitants I want to keep. Like you mentioned, I'm hoping to switch to 1 Lumen Brite pendant and Radium bulb in the future. I just need to get some readings on the PAR values out of the 400w vs the 250w before I make a decision. Also, I have 2 URI Super Actinic VHO's downstairs in the basement, and a canopy built to house everything, but have been unable to figure out a way to get it hung above the tank without having to damage or hang it from the walls/ceiling.

Thanks. Yeah, that Sunset has taken off in it's current location. My colors are a bit pastel right now, but I'm pretty sure I know the reason behind the change... and it has nothing to do with lighting. Also, I'll be doing a FTS with PAR readings at different spots within the thank over next few days.

Thank you. This system has really made me appreciate, and realize how nice a smaller tank can be. The only downside... you run out of room so fast!!! LOL

So as I eluded to in one of the previous posts, a lot of the colors in my SPS have been going pastel lately. After talking with a few different people, and testing everything I can think of, I've pretty much settled on the fact that the water is just too clean. So within the next week or so, I'll be adding more fish. Here is the list of additions I have already made deals/arrangements for:

- 1 Christmas Wrasse (picked up today actually)
- 1 Sixline Wrasse
- 6 Small Green Chromis
- 1 Surprise (Hopefully... keeping my fingers crossed that this guy works out!) ;)

Also, I'm hoping to start the Pappone or Blue Coral method soon. I need to dig my articles out of the file cabinet, and refresh myself on the system again before I make any purchases though.

What is pappone or blue coral method?
It's a method that came out of Italy I believe. It utilizes amino acids and a mix of highly potent and blended mush food targeted for corals. The food is so potent that it's recommended only to feed 1/4 of a cube once per week (I think... I need to re-read the article before I start). Anyway, once I locate the article I will post a link for everyone. There were some spectacular results from the method... although they were using an extra ingredient "X" as well, which reefers in the US do not have access to.
nice pictures Like those Candy Apples
Thanks. I fragged them for the first time the other night. I'm hoping to start a few extra colonies in the tank, and also bank some at friend's houses just in case something would happen to my parent colony.

My Unknown White Acro is finally white again.

Recently cut Candy Apple Palythoa frag. I'm trying to start another colony.

Some Acan pictures. Most are holding up extremely well under the intense lighting. The Rainbow Acans seem to be the only ones suffering.

My Green Millepora that is looking worse and worse by the day. Any ideas, or suggestions about what to do?

Some FTS's... I moved some rocks around to open up the sand bed a bit more.

I was going to say to put the GM in a high flow area but it should be getting plenty where it is. Thanks for the polyp, let me know when I can return the favor.

Yeah, I'm really confused as to what the issue with it is. This sort of developed over the past week all of a sudden.

No problem, hopefully it does well for you.

Nitrates have been 0 for a few months now. Not sure about PO4 levels though. Corals aren't browning though, so I don't think PO4 or lighting is too blame. Someone thought my water may actually be too clean since I run such an overpowered skimmer, and don't have many high waste producing fish.

I added a 3" Yellow Coris Wrasse, and 2 Mexican Turbo Snails to the tank today. The Yellow Coris Wrasse was out swimming and eating within 5 minutes of adding it to the tank, but my Mystery Wrasse started going nuts and chasing it around. So I shut the lights off early. Hopefully everyone will relax and get along tomorrow when the lights come back on.

Also, I dosed the tank with Interceptor, and will follow up with 2 more doses each a week apart.
