Urgh seriously.

It might not be what you think. :) Are you talking about the first video aired on MTV when it first started? Or do you know who Mike Nesmith is and have you ever heard / seen his video of “Rio” done 4-5 years before MTV? :)

Hello,

Wow I missed like two whole pages lol of awesome neat stuff on my one thread. I need to figure how or why my alerts do not show on my own thread lol. So going through all comments and love them all and will address all promise, sorry been crazy busy with work and I just kinda zonked out as my brain said sorry we are closed.

I will say before I go through these great music posts (my favorite hobby, it’s kinda scary but between the 70s and 80s and I being 26 I bet I can name more songs and artists than most older than me but mid 90s and above I am terrible and 60s I’m okay I know mostly Beatles , Rolling Stones, few other groups (the astronauts see how many know them lol).

But lol I will give a fair warning on maintenance for our tanks that slapped me kinda hard. I have a very basic routine and it’s simple mostly. The other day I had to buy a new calcium test kit, I tested it and was at 560 calcium. That was Monday so I didn’t dose. I tested today and cross tested and in one day went from 560 to 390. Both tests confirmed by cross reference with water samples on both days with tests from mine and tests from lfs. Did them side by side different api test kits (proved accurate, but wow I dropped and consumed that much in one day, maybe I should bump to 2 table spoons a day instead of 1.5).
Now here is the kicker on Sunday I ran out of alk powder and (barley had enough to do my normal dosage). So Monday only lfs open doesn’t carrry the powder form only liquid form and directions are hideous and it’s made by rpm. Now my test kit showed I changed at 6 and 7 was yellow. So in their directions it said 10 ml equals 10 us gallons of concentrate. So the word concentrate to me is there is way more in a smaller amount than normal right. Nope. I tried to be safe and I only used 20 ml because I stay between 7-8 alk. Tested today and I was at a 4. I went from a 7-4 in one day. So bought the powder again and put in my normal 1.5 tablespoons right away. (Now have to raise slowly), but will test later tonight and see how much that raised me and go from there. My lfs said they have never seen a tank consume so much inna day, should I be worried? Usually this means the tank is growing great and should mean its only going up. Thoughts or is this me still stupid tired from almost 30 hours of work. Worked my 24 and the. Went home to be called back in 6 hours later to help with short staff.

In terms of the music oh I have sooooooo much to share especially with Fleetwood Mac. Oh how I do have some of my favorite songs from them. I think Sara, little lies, rhianna, and go your own way are (oh Diana, and love in store, and I don’t want to know never get old, same with some songs by Queen, the invisible man, who wants to live forever, kind of magic, I want it all, I got to break free (so many more to add, but also so many more bands and songs) like 19fh nervous break down lol mothers little helper, never get old, oh and (sorry love Jefferson airplane also white rabbit), heart, lol
I thought you just turned 25, oh man, I’m getting forgetful lol.

Lol, strictly off the top of my head.

Video killed the radio star. Was the first video on MTV.

That's all. :-/

Can't remember the band name.

And now I can't get that song out of my head...

Hello,

Yes @norfolkgarden your correct it’s video killed the radio star 1979, top three it was a one hit wonder, it scored number one in all countries but USA after about a year finally made number 6, and it’s a nostalgia song based on how technology changes and sometimes people wish they could go back to.

@Fin nope I wasn’t thinking about that one but I had no idea any info about it and trying to find it now. This whole time I was thinking it’s always been video killed the radio star after @norfolkgarden guessed right I had to look urs up also just to see.

Okay now which album and singer was thee very very first to try and release on compact disc? No cheating (no google or other search engines lol).

@Hemmdog nope 26 I am now on the upper eachlan of age :(. See what happens when you turn 26 dementia sets in, and your brain goes to mush. Lol

Michael Nesmith was one of the Monkees (the only real musician in the band) and the concept of making music videos was his. He was asked by his record company to make a short promotional clip for his soon to be released song (Rio) and he came up with the idea of making a video that was something other than just him performing his song (the one I posted). The idea caught on and other artists followed his lead and began making videos of their songs.

You asked what was the first music video. The “Video Killed the Radio Star” was just the first video that MTV chose to air on their premier telecast. Think about it. There were many videos played during that first show (with Rio being among them). That video was simply first up on their playlist that night. There were lots of other videos that were produced before that one. :)

And on a side note, Michael Nesmith’s mother is the person that invented Liquid Paper. :p

Hey @Sarah24! ... I'm in a bit of a quandary and am hoping you can help fix it. I quoted your post above because you state twice, with certainty, that you are 26 years old. You did this in response to @Hemmdog inquiring about you being 25 years old. I actually had to read it a couple of times because back on Feb. 5th you clearly stated, with certainty, that you are 25 years old. So, you see, I am very confused as to whether you are 25 or 26? Or maybe 57. I do not get how one can confuse their own age, with certainty, and am hoping you can help reconcile this dilemma for me.
Below are screenshots of the two different statements.

Statement from Feb 5th...

And statement from last night where you are replying to @Hemmdog about questioning you being 25...

Hello,

I was born in 1993 so I am 26 but yes I had the typo back on the first post. But you also have to consider I said I was 1/4 of a century old, meaning I would have had to complete 25 years in order to reach that (so yes i see your point but I can take a snap shot of my drivers license.’ @crusso1993 does this help you with your quandary? If you want blood samples and dna tests lol sure but may take a tad longer. :) but sorry I misspoke or made it unclear that I was 25/26. But still my user name says Sarah24 which is what brought the idea up in the first place.

Hello,

@Hemmdog lol I forgot what day of the week it is most of the time. Simple things I forget easy but important things I don’t usually.

@Fin yes your correct on nesmith I just thought his idea was the one to make his band like a tv show. The monkeys was also a tv series with the band being the stars and playing in it. I stand corrected lol. J giels band was awesome that’s soooo sad.

The Monkees were not a real band in the beginning. They were assembled by the TV network for the series. Nesmith was the only real musician in the bunch. Had they been looking for real musicians, they would have surely hired Stephen Stills, who auditioned for the band. It was essentially the first manufactured “boy band.”

Eventually, Tork and Dolenz learned to play. Jones just sang and pretended to know how to play the tambourine. :-)

I think the producers of that show were shooting for a TV version of the Beatles “A Hard Days Night” and “Help” movies.

Thanks for the clarification. Blood and DNA are not necessary, at this time. However, they are not ruled out for future clarifications! ;)

@Fin - what is the significance of referencing J. Geils? I think I might have missed something.

Musician from the time period we were discussing.

Hello,

Yes are license are much different than older ones. However at least here in Boise when you renew your license I’d have to provide certain documentation to get this gold star on it. Apparently it determines if you can fly on a plane or not. But when my dad went to renew his this year, because he flies a lot he was required to have that. It’s not for international flying either, so I’ll see when I have to renew mine.

@Fin yes lol your correct on the monkeys I did not know that until I read more on it. The j geils band had a lot of neat songs also but I only know five or six my fav was freeze frame.

Hello,

In terms of who had the first album on cd it was Bruce Springsteen and his album born in the USA :). (Yes im listing 70-80s music but also songs I like or have collected so I may miss some that I don’t know). So this band was a one hit wonder literally lol and there song is the only song that radio has played of their albums. Now since there so many broad ones here is a hint, mid 80s used synthesizer pop. The hint to the band name is this type of bird is normally by the ocean. :)

First album on CD was 52nd Street by Billy Joel. It preceeded Springsteen's Born In The USA by more than 1.5 years. However, Born In The USA was the first commercially available album in the US.

And I'm thinking @Lowell Lemon has got to be right with Flock of Seagulls but they had 3 hits with "I Ran" being the most popular.
