Using Flatworm Exit

Eggs and brown nudi

Not definitely eaten sometimes they pull them in like that. Next week those same skirts may look perfectly fine. IME zoa nudi feed on the trunks not the skirts and the zoas will shrink sometimes still staying open but sometimes closing up too. Best to look in the dark with a flash light to find them.

To me this looks like perhaps it got nipped by a fish or crab. I have some in one of my tanks its happening very similar and I'm suspecting my sarraggasm trigger took a taste sample.

Also I found Flatworm exit to be the best killer of the nudi's but it took high doses like 4 times the level the directions call for. Tough to do in tank at that dose it will cause problems.

IMO if you think you have nudi's I would only suggest a wrasse, however I have had zero luck with the usual suggested wrasses and I have had a TON. My suggestions for pest controlling wrasse are

1. Dusky
2. Lightning wrasse (caribbean)
3. Green coris - but this guy gets huge and may or may not eat CUC and Shrimp. That said I have a 7 incher who does not eat CUC or shrimp. Even have a newly added harley that he ignores completely.

Hope that helps.

I dunno. That's a pretty good lens there.

I don't see any on the stalks though. That's wher they attach.
Have you seen any adults on the glasss or colonies?
The adults glow the color of what zoa the eat so you might see them with the blues on

The big reason to know of course what bug it is the choice of poison.
Spiders are stupid small and you'd use interceptor.

So you would use interceptor to kill zoanthid eating spiders? I did not know that.

I need to get a better lens, badly. Here's the best I can do, I can only get up to 55mm with the lenses I have. I think you can tell which one appears to have been chewed on. That's open and missing all of the lashes.

OOOOHH!!! A little closer look I found your problem.... Theres a bunch of tiny aptasia around those zoas buddy. They are getting whacked. Gotta take care of those. Get some berghias.

I'm overrun by aiptasia in the tank. They're everywhere. I tried berghia but they didn't help and I'm convinced they died. I thought aiptasia at one point. This is also happening to a colony that doesn't have aiptasia near it too though. The aiptasia problem isn't new too. I've been considering getting a couple peppermint shrimp.

I've looked at night and didn't see anything. I pulled one colony and checked it thoroughly. No nudis that I saw and definitely no eggs. I've seen them before. I only have a clown fish and I don't think she's ever nipped a coral. Only crabs are a couple hermits.

I snapped some pictures just now in the dark. I don't see anything on them, just aiptasia and a spaghetti worm. The sunny d's have gotten significantly worse since yesterday.

Sometimes the aptasia are really hard to see. Check the other colony that you say doesn't have aptasia. Check with a macro lens, and I bet you find some tiny ones where the zoas are irritated. Check multiple times too because of they happened to be tucked into their little hidy hole at the time your checking you'll never see them.

Some zoas will tolerate aptasia for a while but eventually aptasia will win.

About the berghia, so you have any wrasse or peppermint shrimp already in the tank? Those are the main berghia preditors. How many did you start with? How big is the tank? What kind of fish do you have?

Only option for them is
Filefish - didn't work for me & might eat your corals.
Butterfly - maybe worked for me but still have them in the system and they pop up now and then but never get big. I assume the Butterfly just doesn't see the tiny ones.
Peppermint shrimp - almost always don't work but try from different vendors might get lucky eventually. Never worked for me to the point of eradication.
Berghias - have to work but have to start with the right amount which is expensive. Didn't work for me as i have too many berghia predators, didn't start with enough, and started them in the wrong place.

Definitely they look like they are getting zapped to me. I been through the same. Especially in my frag tank. In there i just pull a plug and cover the ap with glue. But that won't work for you. Sorry for your trouble man i know it's frustrating. :(

Just my 2 cents, I used a matted file fish and he eliminated the aptasia problem in two weeks.

What else to you have in the tank, had another inhabitant gone rogue.?

I have red that most have success with the flatworm exit. I was doing some reading this week using another product for the makers of flatworm exit and only one gripe.

Course of action: teat the tank with the flatworm exit, it can not hurt anything at this point. Get a Matted file fish for the aptasia:)

Only fish is a clown. Two hermits and a few astrae. I bought 10 berghias. I saw them for a couple days and then I've been unable to find any of them again.

I have a clam, so butterfly fish are out. I've thought about the filefish but I only have a 50g tank. Not to mention my QT is already in use so new fish will have to wait.

I've thought about biting the bullet and buying a laser too but I'd rather not.

There are probably aiptasia on every frag at this point. Even if I don't see them, I agree with you.

@jsker that makes me want another try with the filefish. The one i had was ora tank bred so maybe that's why mine didn't work.

Has yours gone after anything he's not supposed to?

No:) he is happy:D He even eats the nori now with the tanys. Just look at ORA and the matted filefish is new to them. Mine is real dosel and comes to the front of the tank when I come into the room. I have had him for a year. In the past year I have had a aptasia pop up and a day or so later the aptasia is gone. I do feed frozen in small amount twice a day.

The filefish would be a much less expensive approach to the berghias which haven't worked for me so far. Although I'd have to get another QT going.

Gotta figure in the cost of quarantining too.

Berghias on sale for $5 each on salty underground. I just ordered 20. Going to try them in my frag tank.
