Water bill went up $200!???

It has been said in a round about way but it is impossible to help without facts. Every water bill has to have a meter reading on it. What is your normal water usage and what was your usage the month it went up.? Then you can go look at the meter and make your water and see what you usage is.

It sounds like a totally different type of booster pump. The smart buddy has 3 lines that go in and 3 that come out.

That seems seriously high for a water bill, I have an irrigation system for the yard and thats the only time the bill gets excessive, in the winter months running the RO has cost about $20 or so more than normal usage.
Does anyone have any experience on these boosters? I was just looking at these last wk but couldnt find alot of credible reviews?

One thing to keep in mind is the OP might live in an area where the water rate isn't too bad but the sewage rate is downright outrageous.

My area small town Indiana the water rate is comparable to others but the sewage rate is one of the highest in the state.

For every gallon of water I use I pay almost 4 times the price in sewage. In other words I pay roughly 3.8 cents a gallon unless I'm filling up the pool and I get a sewage rate waiver

When I first filled my 125 gallon tank and 40 gallon sump and 30 gallon Reserve my bill increased by almost $80

UNLESS youre pumpig from the ocean I would look at other sources such as washing machine, water heater ( any leaks?), plumbing through the wall such as shower valve, etc.

Most leaky sources will have a hissing sound or evidence of dampness.

High water bills are usually from toilets. Put a few drops of food coloring in the back tank, if the color leaks into the bowl, that's where the leak is. It can surprise you how much water that can waste.

My water bill is usually around 40-50 every month. When I filled my 200 gal system it only went up 8 dollars. That was last November. This May for some crazy reason I got my bill and it was 103 for no reason. Call the water dept and they checked the meter, said everything is good. The following month bill went back to normal. Still haven't figured out what happened. Good luck

I with some others, I don't think the RODI is the problem. My source water runs 1200 tds so I can't run any of the water saver options on my system. I have to just except the fact that I waste a lot of water. With that being said I have a 100 gallon system plus I supply the water for my dads 25 gallon system. My bill may have gone up about $10 after I started maintaining them both. There has to be something else going on, my bill runs around $100 every month.

I too am wondering what the reason was. Mine runs about $75-$85 a month, billed every other month, a little more in the summer due to watering the lawn but the water part of the bill is fairly small, it is the base fees they put in for sewer and pipe upgrade assessment. I did get a high one last year- something like $60 more than normal and I called the water board and they said they estimate and about once a year they come out and check the meter to bill the difference. I suspect that is what they did with the OP.

check your past bills to see if they were estimates or actual readings. You could go a long time with low estimated bills then get whacked when an actual reading occurs.

fwiw, In my last house, we had 5 bathrooms, did laundry twice a day and ran 11 zones of sprinklers over 2 acres of lawn every other day and never had a bill that high.

My guess is that you had a rate increase or they estimated you water usage. When they checked the meter they under estimated your usage. That is the reason .You saw an increase. And it went back to normal .

I used to pay around $9 a month for water(no sewer...I have a septic system).

It has crept up the last few years to being close to $30 a month. My usage did double when the wife moved in.

I used to just pay for consumption and a couple of small fees.

Since the water works is also the fire protection in my town, there's a fire protect fee now, as well as paying off debt for the new fire house and additional reconstruction of town water infrastructure.

At least it is spelled out in the twice yearly bill.

Most likely, as others pointed out, the waste water line keeps dumping water 24x7 for your entire billing cycle (2 months?) due to low input water pressure. If you do not see waste water coming out, then the problem is elsewhere.

Shut off your water main and look at your water meter. It should not be spinning at all. Then turn on the main but keep all faucets off and disconnect the rodi. It should still not spin.

I use this and it works great for me. I get a solid flow from before. In previous post stated was getting about 3g for 10g waste before booster. After booster was getting about 3g rodi to 5g waste

Does your water company check your meter monthly or do they estimate based on past usage? Could be they didn't read the meter for months and when they did you had to catch up on it...
