Waterbox? or Red Sea Reefer?

I have a 90g aqueon tank. Mounted in living room wall, installed inside the closet of the adjacent room. Built my own stand with 2x4's and plywood.

Coming up on 5 or 6 years old now.

wow how great is that quality, having 5-6 years old. If you could, would you be able to send a picture of your tank?

I second this, I'm on my 3rd, no 4th build now. I came home from work and went straight down stairs and went to work on my plumbing. Nothing compares to building your own setup. The design, research and picking out everything and when complete you will smile every time you look at your masterpiece.

Imo, and experience Yes. I knew nothing about plumbing, building stands etc. Each step in the process from studying and picking your equipment and doing the work.

It can be fun but it can also be frustrating as well as saddening depending how things go so prepare for disappontments as well as fun. I'm just being realistic after being in the hobby for a while.
Personally I would go with a brand that has everything you need as far as tank, stand, and plumbing in one box. You supply pumps heaters etc.
Custom is awesome but until your in the hobby for a while and figure out exactly what you want as far as livestock I'm not sure how you would even begin designing a custom system.
I only have experience with one brand you mention, Redsea. I've been happy with mine so far. My reefer 170 is the first image and has been running for over 4 years. My reefer XL 300 g2 has only been running since February this year. It is the second image.

I do agree with this. My first tank as I mentioned earlier was a waterbox all in one. It’s simple because it has no sump. It allowed me to learn the hobby. When I upgraded I went with a sump and did my own plumbing, but working with PVC and drains is related to my job, so it was not intimidating. There are learning curves to the plumbing on a tank however.

Waterbox won’t burst at the seam or leak! I mean how often have you heard of it happening on a Waterbox…like never! Now leaking and bursting Red Sea tanks are practically a regular thing and the company and denied/ignored this issue! I really do love my Waterbox and highly recommend them.

I have a 75-gallon Marineland that is 5 years old! I got it used and it’s been great. I’ve had a bad experience with Aqueon personally but love my Marineland.

Love my Waterbox. I don’t have any experience with Red Sea but I’ve heard so many horror stories about seam failures on Red Sea tanks.

The only thing that scares me about the Redsea is the wood frame compared to the aluminum of other brands.

Not the tank blowouts? Just the wood frame?

Water box have nice fit & finish.
I have a redsea reefer which is great & I love their hardware & supplements but I can't honestly say I'd buy another due to lots of horror stories regarding seam splits.again-standard "you only hear the bad parts" rules may apply.
Having seen a NYOS tank in person & a cade my next tank will be a coin flip between those as they are both really lovely things with great layouts & just seem a bit more special.
