As soon as my wholesaler or LRS, has the corals I need. I'm there buying them. Hard to say no.We all have our weaknesses. Some of us have been in the hobby forever and crash and burn. Some of us are noobs and excel ~ you’ve got $$$
I’ve been off and on for 20 years and I can say that lighting is my biggest weakness. I don’t own a PAR meter. I run T5s and LED, but have no idea about how that affects my reef. I feel like a champ in the area of nutrition and parameters but I’m a loser when it comes to lighting.
What area do you wish to improve in?
I can’t tell you how much I love Hanna checkers. I only have the alk one but I don’t trust my eyes with colors and charts.Same as u stated with ur lighting. But mine would have to be the pocket book. I lack testing well not lack just question it cuz I use the API test kit. Saving Penny's to upgrade to Hanna checkers. And then a apex kit. But not very book smart. So that stuff just confuses me.
@Jomama - I really want to pick your brain about softies. I know you keep a lot and you have a system like no other. If ok, can I PM you? We have lots of these red softies in the ocean in my backyard. But everyone says they’re impossible to keep.As soon as my wholesaler or LRS, has the corals I need. I'm there buying them. Who can say no, to a face like that. Heeee
Yes that's what I hear. And yea the color chart not a big fan. Do u hold it right in front of the white leave a gap. Does the light I checking under change the color lol. But thanks.I can’t tell you how much I love Hanna checkers. I only have the alk one but I don’t trust my eyes with colors and charts.
I use salifert for pH and the color of the liquid is nowhere near any of the colors on the chart. I more so use them to check for stability. As long as the color is the same every time, I’m ok.Yes that's what I hear. And yea the color chart not a big fan. Do u hold it right in front of the white leave a gap. Victoria harbor by you or near you. Article few years back mentioned these corals. Harbor at that time semi polluted. And they thrived. PM me anytime, comrade@Jomama - I really want to pick your brain about softies. I know you keep a lot and you have a system like no other. If ok, can I PM you? Amazing that you know that. That’s exactly where I live. I can walk there in a few minutesVictoria harbor by you or near you. Article few years back mentioned these corals. Harbor at that time semi polluted. And they thrived. PM me anytime, comrade
Complacency is my biggest weakness I think. Some call it laziness but it's a little different. I stay fairly regular with water changes and cleaning, but I'm the opposite of constantly tweaking. My setup requires minimal or no tweaking so I take it for granted. Not changing T5 bulbs because they've just been working so you forget about it. Not changing DI resin because it just spits out 0 TDS water everytime so I forget to stay on top of it. Taking my doser for granted that it's just doing its thing and forgetting to check the dosing containers.

Thanks for the article. I live literally minutes away from this harbor. In fact, a friend of mine sent me this pic last week of a coral his dad caught while just fishing.
Cool, your at the motherload. I wish I could do my research there. Try to grow them. One day I feel, next generation of reef keepers and people will only know them from pictures on the net. Bummer. Keep me postedWe also have lots of sun corals in our waters. A LFS has around 100 in a tank that are going to be shipped to the US.
