What Are Your Reefing Pet Peeves?

How about 'that guy' who waits untill the end of the frag swap, sees you have everything marked down to $10 ea and asks if you will take $5. When you say no, he replies, "how about two for $15?"

Boo to 'that guy'

You and Chris were both very GENEROUS with your frags. I can't imagine how someone could even offer $10 - and I am about the swindlest person out there and wouldn't try that! (I always try and work a package deal somehow :) ) I spend good $ too though.

That irks me as well. That or when guys come over wanting to pick stuff up, only to find out they wanted your $100 stuff for $10, then leave after a couple hours without anything.
My time is worth more than that, if you want to hang out lmk, but come on already!

on that note...i had a guy coming over to buy icefire, setose, pink lemonade, etc etc and when he got here was looking around...this and that...asked me how much for a frag of my pink milli i said $5 (usually say 10, but he was SUPPOSED to be buying a lot of coral) asks me if i'll take $4 cuz thats all he's got. walked outa my house with a $4 milli frag. he was here lookin in my tank for like an hour and i don't even like the kid....URGH! I thought i was going to be getting some bar money, but instead can't even buy a corona!

or vodka dosing and drinking lots of water lol

Who we vodka dosing the tank or ourselves?

Ooo ooo I got antoher one!
The guy that comes over to buy a $5 frag of Nepthia or whatever and picks your brain with a million question for over an hour and just won't leave even though you drop enough hints. :squigglemouth:

Or the guy that comes over to buy frags and brings his screaming bratty kids with him/her and they're running around my family room torturing the dogs and the cats and touching stuff they shouldn't be touching.

My kids are grown so I have the luxury of leaving thigs lying around. I don't want young children touching my stuff!

-Moving a coral and then spending the next 3 hours fixing the rock slide!
-People posting full tank shots without even bothering to scrape the FRONT glass!
-Viewable frag racks IN main display. There are ways of hiding the frag racks in your display. ;)
- People saying things about equipment they have no experience with. I love ambushing unsuspecting reefers in threads where they claim that T5's CANNOT grow corals. :p
-When some starts using the WPG(watts per gl) and Live rock PPG(pounds per gl) rules. Get with the program, WPG and PPG are SO 1999! :D
-Members on forums who think post count equals experience! You know who you are! :P

But remember guys and gals, we are here to help others and to learn from one another. If you find someone is spouting misleading info the best thing to do is educate them on the correct way of doing it. Oh, and be sure to provide sources and examples as these will go a long way in cementing your point. :)

Nothing is more heartbreaking then to have a new reefer post shots of his tank only to be ignored because it doesn't look "good" yet. Be helpful to the newbies and those who currently lack the skills to build a successful reef, for they are the future of the hobby. Who knows, one day they may be giving you advice! ;)

:waaaht: That is ridiculous! I am so thankful that I cannot grow ANY corraline on my glass! Never have, and hopefully I never will! That must be a nightmare to clean up.

That was ~18 months ago when my partner quit and I had to run a huge office by myself (100+ employees generating $40,000,000/yr in commissions). There are now 5 of us running the ship and I'm sill too busy. I was getting home, dumping food in there and going to bed. I didnt test the water for 6 months, only emptied the skimmer when it overflowed, did water changes once/month (normally done every Sunday), and didn't clean the glass.

Sounds like you have your hands full! I was like that with my older setup and really had a hard time keeping up! Sales jobs are very lucrative but eat up all your time!

I have since left the sales world and am working for my family again and earning an advanced degree. It is summer time now so I have NOTHING to do after about 3PM other then maintain my tank. I cant wait until school starts back up in September!

Although, I do miss the hectic and exciting world of sales. Nothing like landing that big deal and the fat check that comes with it! :D

i got another one: catching fish.

i had to break down my entire reef last night to catch a wrasse. tried tricking it, netting it, nothing worked. i eventually took almost everything out and cupped it with my hand

I am having the same issue right now trying to catch a Sohal Tang. I have the buyer waiting for me to catch him but it is proving to be impossible!

People who say they want to buy something, be it corals or used equipment, and then never follow through with the transaction.

I have to agree with that. It drives me crazy after taking time to get shipping quotes to never hear back from them. Grrrr...... Now I just do a flat shipping rate no matter if I gain or lose on shipping. Lose most of the time
