What Are Your Reefing Pet Peeves?

true i guess i was sort of summing up a lot of the sentiment that people have toward being deceived, but that's ok b/c people like you and me that are of faith believe in the consequences of our actions. Happy Reefing to all : 0

When you show relatives and people that are non-reefers the tank in front of your wife and all they want to know is ""How much did this cost? and oooo, how much did that cost?" All the coral were $20 and I got the equipment on a trade....sheees....

3 things really get me going

1- Anybody that "knows it all". I set up my first reef tank in 1987 and I don't know nearly what I'd like. Even if you do know it all, try to act like you don't:bigsmile:

2- The way people switch their methods, whether it be lighting, decor, filtration, salt brand, DSB or BB, etc based on fads and the latest gizmos. I can't tell you how many beautiful aquariums I have seen people ruin because they wanted to try that new salt, or "so and so' on RC said that DSB's are the bomb! Find what works for you and stick with it. Sometimes changes, even with the best of intentions, are not the best course of action. Think things through.

3- This has only happened a few times but really irritated me. I am not really a fan of all the "naming" of corals. I understand it's place in our hobby, and deal with it, but would prefer it went away. Anyhow, I have in the past had some of my stuff sold on some fairly popular websites like Tubs old site, and also exoticfrags. When you do this, many times your username gets applied just because the people running the business need to be able to distinguish between my grape watermelon chalice and someone elses version. The end result is there are several corals out there with my username attached being traded around the country. This in itself is not a bad thing, and usually I don't mind at all, however, I have had more than one occasion where someone would be discussing a trade or buying frags from me, via PM, and has either asked me "Are you sure this is the real SPStoner Coral "X" or do you have lineage for the SPStoner Coral X, or, my personal favorite "That doesn't look like the SPStoner Coral X my friend Bubba got from Billy Joe". These are the times where I have to take a deep breath, and maybe a shot of Tequila:bigsmile:

Naming corals and selling them for 10-20X the amount you sell them to locals for. I have seen a few examples of that lately.

People that get to serious over threads like this....HAHAHA!

mine is the people that say should or should not go together. "your tank is too small for that fish" but i will also agree with the others.....i hate my tank being dirty, and over priced coral because of the name.

HAHA! It is a pet peeve of mine about a reef related hobby of mine which is reef related. LOL!

This made me laugh because that’s what I do, that or go and do some clean up in the garage or the yard or clean up my truck. All of which are not what she had in mind...

Its a losing battle every time

What bugs me is how all these little pebbles somehow manage to creep up to the top of the sand and before you know it, it’s no longer a sand bed but a pebble bed.

-I can't stand people that have more money than brains. Not a lick of reefing skill or knowledge other than what they have read, but throw stacks of money at their tanks like it a popularity contest.
