Hair algea! As soon as you think it’s gone for good. A week goes by and it pops up again. Also fish disease. Out of the 10 fish I have put in qt over the last 2 years I have had only 2 be healthy the whole time.

Unreliable equipment.

I buy good stuff, or try to.
Got 1 year out of the pump on my Vertex 180i, cost 40% of purchase price to replace it.
RKL lasted 6 months, just went nuts. No support (bad support email on site, no phone number anywhere, unable to join online support forum). Bought an Apex.
120vac NC Solenoid from AirWaterIce (love the company, been buying from them for decades) gave up, stuck open, in under a year. Ebay replacement on it's way.
Finnex titanium heater failed in just over a year.

Ok, so if I was buying cheap stuff, I suppose I would be more understanding, but this stuff is supposed to be quality, or at least it's priced that way. I'm an industrial controls engineer. If the stuff I was installing professionally had this kind of lifespan, my customers would be irate.

That's just really bad luck. I hope you never have a pacemaker installed...

The terms "high end", "mini cycle", and the term "cycling" in general is kind of annoying. And hobby hype names for corals are ridiculous. When I ID a species and the person gets upset and says "no, I mean like it's real name" hahaha. That IS its real name. I'll second what @AlexStinson said about someone asking for advice then ignoring it or getting upset because they didn't like it. That happens a lot.

And finally, when someone says Ich instead of Crypto. Ich is freshwater, Crypto is saltwater, very different parasites. I have more, but I'll be in trouble already so I'll leave it at that

Newbies that ask for advice, but dismiss everything they don't want to hear.

Sounds similar to advice any of us give to anybody about anything. That's life.

The thing that drives me the craziest are the 6-months-in experts that talk down on reefers that followed husbandry methods many years ago that were considered best practice at the time. It's really easy to quickly learn what's the current "correct" way to do something and look down on previous methods that have been phased out over time and ruled inefficient for one reason or another. There will definitely be things we all do today that will be looked down on 10 years from now and a new breed of newbies calling us idiots for it. There's still so much we don't know about the systems we keep, so evolution of the hobby is a good thing.

The clown/anemone "host" thing used to annoy be, but I've come to the conclusion that just about everyone knows the anemone is the host and not vice versa. It's just easier to say "my clown won't host.." when asking for help than "my clown won't form a symbiotic relationship with his host anemone", so I think it's almost short-hand at this point. Incorrect short-hand and perhaps I'm just telling myself that lol.

Fortunately the vast majority don't last. It's always amused me when some knuckle head show up, posting everywhere and on everything while dispensing bad advice. Then they're gone ..... either off on a snit, banned from the boards or just expired from the hobby. Seen it over and over again.
