What coral just does not work for you?

Wow! I'm surprised that a lot people have trouble with zoas. When I was just starting out in the hobby and researching the one coral that was mentioned to be easy were zoas. Most of them do great in my tank and are fast growers except once and a while there will be one that grows briefly then melts away.

Zoas are not hard to keep its just that finding the best conditions for specific zoas is guesswork.

Trumpets give me fits too. I have a new tank ( 4months old and 120 gallon) so I've only added 3 acro frags. Two are now brown and one has remained green and purple (cross my fingers)
but the zoas are thriving, the acans and blastos are growing, the hammers and torches are growing, the plates seem to be ok. I'm having trouble with an eagles nest, but again might be because
of the new tank. I feed them reef roids and brs chili every few days. They suck that stuff up.

I have a year old biocube, forget acros with that crappy light. I cant even get monti caps to live more than a week or so, but mushrooms, zoas, kenya tree, hammers and torches, are doing well.
Once my wallet allows, I'll put some better lights on the biocube and stick and acro frag and monti caps in there.

Blue SPS

I have some digi that with strong light will grow under just about any circumstance. Lower light it tends to be orange/brown, strong light it goes blue/purple.

Where do you live? if you're close enough maybe I can overnight a piece?

This may sound ridiculous but I just can't get pulsing xenia to grow. I have tried several times but they just slowly give up and melt away I have other types of Xenia that are flourishing but pulsing Xenia just not working me

I have tried both strong and weak light....every piece I have tried has quickly lost color and died . I am actually in Mentor, Ohio......probably far from you, which normally seems to be the case lol.

In my current tank.... Every. Single. One.

Its cursed, has to be a curse. After 6 months of fighting this thing trying to find the bottom of it... and spending way too much money one this or that. I've just resorted to keeping the fish happy and healthy and saving for my next build. This one is a bust.

Looked it up online... not exctally the same coral but I got a wild irish rose from joe knows reefs that is a red color with green underneath. So far it’s doing great in my tank. Give it a search and you might want to give that one a shot.

Ora red planet , my first one grew into a 6 inch colony then stn. then 4 other ones over 3 years all dead in month or two . All other sps great , one of the easiest ones to keep but it has cursed me for sure

Trachy and Lobo. Basically all of those big fleshy LPS. I have all other types of coral from zoa, acan, acro, anemones, clam, all doing well. But those big never did well. The best they do is stay there any losing only a bit of color, lost all of the ones I tried.

Gorgonians... tried 2 times with the ORA red and once with a blue one. I really like these and almost bought a tree type green one yesterday. Passed on that (it was hard to do) and bought my 1st Cynarina. It was a good choice. After dipping and gluing to a rock a chunk of Larry's food fell on it while feeding the fish. Slowly the mouth opened and I watched it swallow. Minutes later was all gone and off to a good start...

I've been having good luck with my sps lately but I just can't get a frag of my lfs' chips acro to survive. 5 tries and I dont know what else to do but quit trying with that particular guy

3 leathers were doing well. In past few weeks all 3 shrinking. One died, one hanging on by fingernails but looks like may be dead within days, 3rd one shrunk but as of today might beginning a turn around. LPS's, 1 pachyseris, 1 ricordia, 3 eucinia knobby sea rods doing well.
Fish are 1 clown, 1 yellow tang, 1 blue damsel, 1 orchid dottyback. Some snails and hermits. No other crustaceans.
pH 8.0-8.2
NO3 was zero, now titrating up to 10 goal
PO4 was zero, now titrating up toward 0.05 goal
Ca 380 using kalk in Tunze ATO
Alk 11
SG 1.025
Mg 1280
Temp 76-78
Using amino acids 2-3 x/week.
36 gal Hagen fluval M90.
Now reducing carbon dosing.
WC 10% every 10 days

I have been lucky enough to be able to keep/grow almost everything except Acros. I currently have 2 pieced in my tank that grow like weeds and both were Aquacultured. I have since added several different frags of Acros They do ok for awhile then slowly die. My paremiters are good and very stable. I’m using Kessil lighting and have very good water movement. I would love any tips.

Goniopora and Elegance. Goniopora I've tried three time.

Nobody can grow Gonis and not much research has been done as to why they don’t do well in captivity. As for the Elegance. Try to get only the Aussie ones don’t bother with the Indos. Aussie elegance do very well in tanks but the Indos always die. They do like to eat and is a must to keep them healthy They will also take chunks of krill if offered. Good luck

I can't get birdsnest to grow.. Thriving acros, thriving LPS, and I still can't get birdsnest going in my tank.
It's a shame, I actually really like the idea of having a large colony of the green birdsnest.

Acro’s seem to be easy long as you keep calcium, alkalinity and Magnesium in range. I will admit strawberry shortcake acro ... I can kill it by looking at it. Tried it twice and both times dead in a day.
